    >Kawhi Leonard left without Toronto getting anything in return (except for a title). Then Kyle Lowry left and nothing came back. Now Fred VanVleet left for nothing. That’s a bad pattern and it feels like there is about to be a shift in Toronto… probably. The Raptors experiment with a very switchable lineup of 6’6″ to 6’9″ guys didn’t work out, but the pivot to whatever is next has been awkward. The Raptors did re-sign Jakob Poeltl and bring in Dennis Schroder, and they have Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby on the roster, but what are they trying to evolve to? Siakam trade rumors were flowing in Las Vegas as other teams really wanted Anunoby to be available (he is not), but don’t expect the Raptors to let Siakam play out the last year of his contract without getting either an extension or a trade done. Eventually.

I guess the writer forgot about Precious but in their defense, he is notoriously inconsistent

I honestly think we will be better than last year

2020: we were expected to be bad, we were good.

2021: We were expected to be worse than before, but still somewhat decent, a playoff team, ended up as a lottery team.

2022: We were expected to be bad, not make the playoffs, ended up as the 5 seed.

2023: We were expected to be a decent top 6 in the East type of team. Not contenders, but definitely a playoff team. Ended up losing in the play-in.

Take these pre-season predictions with a grain of salt, please.

One must wonder where we would be now if we didn’t jump up to the 4th pick in 2021. Maybe we would be stuck with a even more crammed version of positionless basketball. Maybe it would have forced our hand to rebuild earlier. The depletion of talent that we have experienced since 2019 is the most concerning. We don’t have a young star whose taken the reigns, like even the worst of the rebuilding teams.

We were tied for 17th/18th last season.

Teams ahead of us I think we can pass:
    Brooklyn

Teams behind us I think might pass us:
    OKC
    Mavericks

So… 19th sounds about right. Barring any big additions like getting Herro without sending out Pascal (which I think makes us close to a 50 win team).
