Could Trayce Jackson-Davis develop a 3pt shot?

Career free throw percentage of 68% across 4 years and some shots from the combine might not suggest he has a chance….

If he did develop the ability to shoot a little bit there’d be a lot more lineup versatility, playing him next to Draymond, Kuminga, even Looney.

Probably wishful thinking, but maybe something he can add like GPII was seemingly able to.

Making him space out as a shooter would take him away from the spots where he can do the things he does best, similar to Loon it’s not worth it just for him to be a meh shooter

A good comp that I see in him is John Collins who never shot the 3 in college and career free throw was around 73%. Didn’t shoot much 3 in his first yr with the hawks and is now a respectable 3pt shooter that will keep the defense honest. I feel like Trayce can def be a solid player just like Collins

I’d rather he improves the things he’s good at instead of mold him into a new player.

I don’t care for him to. If he develops a good enough midrange shot I’d be fine with that.

I’d rather he be able to make a point blank range lay up with his right hand than pull up from 3 tbh.

This doesn’t really mean anything but….

In a video of him in a practice shooting drill he was straight up hitting all of his threes and from all area of the arc. His firm looked beautiful too. It was pretty shocking to me.

Maybe but he doesn’t need to. It’s just not his style of play

I’m a firm believer that most players never “develop” anything new. They just become better versions of themselves.

Why couldn’t Dray or Looney do the same? I have to believe they’ve tried over the years. Both would be enormously more valuable to the team (or to any team that paid their salary) if they could. Even a 50%+ mid-range game would be a big bonus, but there they are, shooting from 5 feet in.

Rebounding, setting screens, finishing, making the right pass, playing smart defense.. those are the things I’d like to see before adding any new wrinkles to his game.

Don’t need him shooting threes any time soon.

I think this is something they liked about him, that he’s not so hell-bent on expanding his game or being a unicorn like too many guys are. Seems to have a good perspective and know where he’s needed and how he can really help the team. Your Bagleys, your Wiseman, your Aytons, or even KAT, forget that mess.

  12. He said himself that it wasn’t a skill he was planning to prioritize coming to the warriors, so I expect him to focus more on his inside game and link-up play

Lets develop into playing first. So Loon and Draymond aren’t the only bigs in rotation.

    short answer: No

    long answer: also no

TJD still has defense and rebounding to polish up. and he needs to become a better roller.

if he acquires all those skills he can think about improving his middie and then go out for the 3

If he can just hit the mid range shot consistently, he would be a huge help
