Maybe this is the year. We have enough centers to do it

This feels like the least likely chance since like 2018.

You could also say that of the last 20 MVPs, 8 of them have never won a title and 4 of those 8 played on the sixers

Not winning a title isn’t the issue.

Us finding a new way to embarrass ourselves in the 2nd round every year is.

People don’t realize how much luck has to do with a playoff run. I swear the sixers have just gotten so unlucky. People keep talking about the missing piece but it is rlly just things to go our way in post season

5 Centers. This year is definitely it.

theres also the caveat that Kobe was not actually the best player on his own team the first 3 titles he won.

the Joel argument aside, this three exceptions you mentioned are interesting.

Kobe had the benefit of playing with prime Shaq from the day he entered the NBA.

Duncan was drafted to a good team that lost its best player (D. Robinson) to season-ending injury the year before, thus putting the Spurs in position to draft Duncan.

Curry really revolutionized the league with his shooting. Of the three, I’m most impressed by his run to a title relatively early in his career. Though Duncan looked like a Hall of Famer from his first day in the league, but again he had the benefit of going to a team that wasn’t really as bad as its #1 overall pick status.

  9. ~all of those teams in recent years also had owners willing to pay a luxury tax bill.

Garnett was not the same player when he won, young KG was just a monster. Embiid has at least another year or two of MVP level play in him. But this year looks terrible so Embiid will pass more names on that list. And after Moreys terrible performance so far its crazy to think the year after will be better.

I agree that Embiids more likely to get a championship than not, but he’s right to say “I don’t know where that’s going to be”
