Just when it seemed like the offseason was beginning to get into full swing for the Toronto Raptors, everything stopped suddenly and that includes a suspicious turn of events for shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. When the dust settled on an unfortunate start to free agency, the 24-year-old was fresh off opting into his player option with Toronto for the 2023-2024 season and not only that he had engaged in extension talks with Masai Ujiri’s front office as well. It appeared as though a long-term extension was imminent when suddenly all of the conversations surrounding said extension just stopped..

This all occurred around the time when Pascal Siakam trade rumors to the Atlanta Hawks in particular really picked up, and it feels as though the Raptors are now hiding something from the press.
