After all, he did his best. And that’s what matters.

  2. lopea182

Iā€™m really curious to see what his next contract looks like (if he even gets one)

  3. Buffalobuffal0

I don’t think it matters. Nobody is giving him another max

  4. Spike_der_Spiegel

I always wondered how much ended up getting withheld. $10 mil seems like a reasonable guess

  5. Still absolutely baffled that there wasn’t a clause put into contracts to stop shit like this happening with the new CBA

  6. Prestigious-State-15

There should be a Netflix documentary made about him. I honestly think it would be fascinating.

  7. WhereDaHinkieFlair

He can’t keep getting away with this!

Perfect photo to encapsulate the career of Ben Simmons

This seems to be the most interesting bit of the article:

    >Harden has now requested a trade from the Sixers, and in the event Harden is not traded and then refuses to report to camp, different rules would apply to him because he is in the final year of his contract, league sources told ESPN.
**A separate clause in the CBA — which existed in prior versions of the agreement — holds that any player who “withholds playing services for more than 30 days after the start of the last season covered by his contract” could be deemed to have violated his contract and prohibited from entering free agency or signing with “any other professional basketball team unless and until the team with which the player last played expressly agrees otherwise.”**

It seems Harden is not going to be able to pull a Simmons to force a trade. Not that he seemed likely to — he only ever dogged it, not held out, to force a trade — but it still cuts down on his leverage.

Iā€™ve sat out of 20 + years of this, whereā€™s my pay?

  12. KanyeWestBrick

This punk has gotten away with everything

  13. GeebCityLove

I really donā€™t know what he does off the court but has he done any kind of mental therapy? I canā€™t believe a dude canā€™t mentally play basketball, the sport he played almost his whole life, for millions of dollars and still show up to public looking like a clown. What kinda mental shit is that

  14. lyonbc1

Interesting that this was a side case and apparently wonā€™t set a precedent for anyone else in the future

If only i could make money and get credit for not doing my job

I fucking hate how much Ben Simmons failures reflect on Australian basketball.
After all the hard work Bogut and Delly did in showing we could hang at the highest level, it feels like Simmons fucking tanked all of that.

Patty Mills and Ingles have offset it a bit, but I feels like Simmons really fucked it.

  17. Hollerino

Donovan Mitchell would like a word about Simmons ā€œrookieā€ year.

  18. BuySellHoldFinance

This guy really ruined his career because his feelings got hurt…. He had a good thing going in philly and he threw it down the tubes. Hopefully people can learn from this. Don’t mix personal with business or else you’re going to lose lots of money!

  19. IanScottMcCormick

Thank God. Now we can give him the bag when heā€™s up for a new deal

  20. KarrlMarrx

The audacity to sit out those playoff games while dressed like an actual fucking clown on the bench is actually kinda impressive.

  21. amedeoisme

Douche. Shouldnā€™t have gotten any of the salary for the missed time and not be credited for anything

  22. Jello-Hymn

Then take back his ROY and give it to Donovan Mitchell, the one who deserved it then because he was both better and a real rookie.
