Oh wow, Thunder ownership is going to pay for a big portion of the new arena? How common is that? I just assumed most arenas are built through public funding.

Part of me hopes that they demo Paycom Center and rebuild at the same location. The stadium + Omni Hotel + new convention center + new central park is such a fantastic focal point for the city.

so, it’s 70mil from leftover MAPS4 money and then the rest comes from the Thunder ownership? that’s an amazing deal for the city. that would mean the Thunder Ownership group would own the arena (or at least the majority?) and be able to reap the profits of non-nba events as well right

Man I was so worried about this new arena not getting built but if taxes aren’t raised idk why anyone would say no

No tax raises is huge. OKC ownership putting their money up is so relieving. Some great news for the city and state, which we don’t get often.

This is a little off topic but I just went on vacation to see my sister in Texas and didn’t realize how MF close Fort Worth is to OKC (I’m from SC btw). Im definitely taking another trip out there later this year to watch the Thunder play in person for the first time ever. Im so fkn happy about that
