This is Good News…

The Toronto Raptors star forward Pascal Siakam has been the main story for this off-season as the organization decides whether or not to package him in a big trade or keep their star and potentially extend him into next season. 1. Signing Pascal to a max extension now is actually a good move. For all the people crapping on him, he is easily a top 30 player and probably a top 20. That’s a max player and having a max player locked on 4 years is a easy contract to move for assets.

  2. I am with you. Why trade away Siakam for sub-par packages? Plus, teams know that if Siakam was to be traded, he may not even re-sign with that team. So Siakam's value is a bit low naturally. Raptors don't want to end up like the Wolves who were so desperate to throw away 4 first-round picks. And the Wolves didn't even improve that much more.

I do think Siakam can adjust his role. He doesn't have a big ego like the bet-on-himself FVV. Siakam can be the 2nd or 3rd option as he enters his early 30's. His size, quickness and experience will be an asset to this team.

  3. I lament how far the general basketball IQ of the Raptors fanbase has fallen. This narrative of criticizing Ujiri and Webster for "letting players walk" shows just how far from reality some of the fanbase is. Here are the notable players who left for "nothing:" Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka. The year after Kawhi left, we had a BETTER record, and both us and the Clippers lost in 7 in the second round. However, in the four years since the chip, he's played an average of 40 games, including missing an entire year and has been injured in the playoffs every year except the bubble. I think we did ok there. Danny won the bubble chip with the Lakers then fell off a cliff. Again, no real loss. We let Marc and Serge walk so we could potentially sign Giannis. I, personally, think the risk was worth it, and both those players also fell of their respective cliffs since. And to be fair, we didn't "let" Kawhi walk. We made the best offer. We did OUR part. We knew the risks when we traded for him and that's why a FInals MVP only cost us DeMar, Jak and a pick. We got a chip out of the rental. WELL worth it. It will left to be seen how Fred does in Houston, but it was by no means a front office failure that we didn't match the ridiculous offer that Houston threw at him. Should we have tried to sign him to an extension? Well, we did. He decided not to sign one, and considering the outcome, he made the best decision for Fred. Should we have traded him before the deadline? Not for the packages that were rumoured to be available. THAT would have been stupid af.

Like you said, the front office is still brilliant. Folks who think otherwise because a player who is injured over half the time when his new team needs him most left, and we let a bunch of washed up players walk are either TOO casual, or on crack.

  4. We’re going to look back and regret turning down an All Defensive/ All Star point guard for Siakim. Dejounte Murray + assets was a great offer. Masai and fans dropped the ball

  5. I like Pascal, but the team as is would end up in the middle of the pack. The only reason you keep him is if we pick up a star. Get younger players who have potential.

  6. We refused to trade Pascal last summer while his value was at it's highest point. Now, with his contract expiring, we are overvaluing Pascal on the trade market. So we will be in a position where we are forced to either extend him or risk him walking next summer for nothing. Great

  7. If Siakam signs an extension this summer it would probably be around the first week of August. However Siakam was on the cusp of making ALL NBA this past season so he may not even sign an extension this summer and try again for ALL NBA and sign a super max contract….. so I doubt Siakam gets extended this offseason.

I would be ok with trading Siakam for expiring contracts, picks and maybe a young player or two (who may not have all star potential) who have good potential for a good NBA career as role players.

How quickly we forget that the Raptors became a more balanced team when they traded Rudy Gay for good role players…. And they started winning…. Sometimes less is more…. Give more touches and responsibilities to OG, Barnes and GTJ….

  8. Masai and bobby don’t seem to have a direction. Also, what does bobby actually do? Is bobby behind this indecision? This indecision doesn’t seem masai like. Losing so many assets, questionable decision making. Is this bobby or masai, or both?

  9. I have no issue with the changes we have made. I'm excited to see no nurse and no fvv and the additions of Schroder porter Jr dick and McDaniels. Should be deeper and should be a better run offence

  10. With FVV amd even Kylow the fact that they left and freed up salary in both cases benefit our team in the long run IMO. With Spicy P its not the same thing, he is actually worth the max on this team he has earned it. The youth on the squadare not ready to take the reins just yet they need an established star to guide them until they are and Spicy P is that guy to me. OG and Scotty have to take a huge leap for us to trade him this season, if they show that they are so good that Pascal is holding them back then go ahead but I will consistently say that their are not any players in the league that have Spicy's skills as well as OG's if meshed together perfectly can be harmonious defense and offense and transition.

  11. Guys – we need to trade him, it’s inevitable! Scotty and og wont blossom if pascal is the main ball handler/scorer
