Is running it back a bad idea for the Pelicans | How to change the narrative around the team

It’s a LIVE episode of Locked On Pelicans as host Jake Madison answers your questions. Do you think running it back with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and the rest of the group is a bad idea for the New Orleans Pelicans? If the team were to build a new arena what needs to make it special? And how do you change the negative narrative that always seems to surround the team?

  1. My personal opinion: Last year was that “run it back” year, or should have been; so, wasting a year shouldn’t be our go-to. If Zion gets injured again, his stock will be completely tanked, and if BI gets disgruntled (which seems likely) he may demand a trade which will tank his value.

We literally wasted our picks not doing a big move last year and/or this off-season. We kept trading back or staying put with those picks and have had to use a bunch of them to get off terrible contracts.

I’m not trying to be negative, and I understand how small a market we are; but DG has a job to do, and IMO he hasn’t done it. He’s been too cautious, and it’s cost us dearly.

With small markets, you only win two ways: Via the draft, and trades – and while we have gotten some very solid players late in the first and in the second, overall we’ve had as many busts as not, and (sorry) our good players gotten in the draft do not move the needle towards a chip. That’s just the reality of it.

We should have swung big, and since we didn’t we’re banking on Zion’s health or a complete blow-up…those are NOT good options, sorry.

  2. The thing about running it back is
Zion and Ingram barely played together last year, there’s huge upside; especially when considering cj played through injury.
I do hope we at least get to see the true peak of this roster.

  3. Superstars wanting to leave goes back even further….to Baron Davis. That's why people need to covet BI more.

  4. this is what I have been saying leave the team as is since the player were hurt and if they come back with no injurie to say that would keep them out for and extended long time yes see what happen.

  5. Been watching since mid-2019. I have listened to just about every episode since. Thanks for the dedication and all the great work Jake!

  6. Idk even before all the injuries I didn’t this team had all the pieces. They have no one to guard a big men comfortably

  7. this team has everything we need for a deep playoff run except rim protection and a reliable center, but i do like cody zellers activity on defense.

  8. Dump Jonas. Have Nance starting center. With Zeller and Zion playing some center. Spend the Jonas money on something else.

  9. Running it back in the loosest sense of terms as they've hardly played together…this season is make or break though….🏀🇬🇧

  10. Bench CJ McCollum are you crazy,if anybody should be coming off the bench its Zion Williams because the Pelicans need to keep him healthy

  11. I think they should make a move for Joel Embid….trade Dyson, Vlancuines, and a bunch of draft picks and our team would be awesome

  12. Jake your show/podcast nation ,I really enjoy content. I do not think we blow it up or trade Z if the 2023 season ends without a chip

  13. If I’m Gayle, no way I relocate my business next to the spot with the most homeless and mentally insane people coupled with the obvious crime problem in the city and the lack of ability to make any changes to make it safe. Like it or not, that’s playing a role into whether people go downtown and take a chance of having their vehicle broken into.

  14. New Orleans be handling the team like it’s a high school 🏫. That’s why ppl leave. Being cheap is a bad look overall.

  15. they should have tried to do some upgrades to the roster, i really thought bol would have made a nice addition but now hes gone to the enemy

  16. What is the latest news on Zion? Will he be able to play ball this season? How much trouble is he in with the porn stars? I pray that he gets his life right.
