[Barry Jackson] A team that spoke with Portland said it’s skeptical that the Blazers actually want to trade him (at least yet). PERHAPS the end qame is to get Lillard to report to camp and play for them, unless he makes it really messy.

They never actually thought Dame would ask out lol

Assuming this is true, Portland is looking even whiner here. I get slow playing it but Dame only wants one location. We aren’t going to bet against ourselves. It’s only a matter of time til Dame goes nuclear.

Let it get really messy. Blazers FO is delusional if they think they can repair things with Dame.

Go into the season with the current group and wait for Dame situation to get so ugly we get him for a steal. Maybe we can keep Herro and trade Lowry, Duncan and picks

Perhaps a very, very hot take, but hear me out:

Portland is being an absolute bitch. All recent reports (from Shams, Haynes, and Barry) indicate that Blazers have shown no desire to negotiate whatsoever. **IF** they continue to ignore us until the season starts, what prevents us from getting better in other ways than just Dame? r/NBA and the whole NBA world is acting like Miami is fucking desperate in this situation, but why can’t Miami make a different trade and get better? James Harden’s expiring is available, and I’m sure we can beat Marcus Morris+a FRP. What about Zach Lavine? Even if it isn’t stars like those two, we could easily make a minor move using the assets they have, and can very well improve. **It’s not Dame or bust,** unlike r/NBA is making it out to be. We already made the Finals with the current core, they don’t need an absolute major upgrade. Strus was redundant with Duncan who outplayed him in the playoffs, Gabe can be replaced by J-Rich, and this time we would have Tyler who is being vastly underrated by everyone else in the league right now.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Dame on the Heat as much as the next guy. However IF Blazers continuously show absolutely zero desire to negotiate until the training camp, I say we move on and let them deal with a disgruntled superstar sharing minutes with 3 other young guards on the roster. Or good luck finding a better offer for Dame when it’s been numerously reported Miami’s the only one in the market right now.

Portland wants to trade Dame they just want him to open his list of teams. Im not sure how paying a player the supermax for 4 years of his talent level meshes with a rebuild at all.

They want Miami to move on so that Dame is forced to open his list.

  6. MadPatagonian

Let’s move on then. All Dame can do now is not report to camp and refuse to play. And I’d be very surprised if he does that. If it’s gonna happen, it’ll probably happen sometime during the season.

Being objective about it, if I were the Blazers I would do the same thing.

Listen – Dame’s under a massive contract for four seasons, so he’s not going to sit out (and isn’t the type to sit out anyway). And if he does sit out, then they don’t have to pay those game checks and he looks like the bad guy. What do they care if he sits?

So why wouldn’t they have him play and try again at the deadline? Or even play out the year and try again next offseason?

Three first round picks is a bad deal for Dame and that’s about all Miami can swing.

Portland fans are gonna be really mad when this ends up in Miami getting dame for even less than what’s being offered now lmao. Portland thinks they’re in a position of power but don’t realize just how bad this will be for them if they don’t trade him now. Negotiate with Miami now and get a good trade done or wait until dame makes it messy and or doesn’t care about winning during the season and end up having to take a worse off deal just bc you let pride get in the way😂

  9. “Maybe if we act like nothing happened, he’ll just forget about it”

  10. SirFunktastic

Lol if Portland thinks they can somehow salvage this situation and pretend it never happened. I think they’re underestimating the damage bringing this circus into training camp and into the season can do to a franchise. There’s no point to bringing back Dame to play for them if they’re rebuilding other than ticket sales.

  11. TheRealJohnMara

He should pull a Jimmy beat the starters with 3rd stringers and set up and interview with Rachel Nichols right after saying “I’m him! Stop trapping me in this 12 year rebuilding organization, I’m a peacock you gotta let me fly”

  12. GringoMambi

man, this really puts our team on a bind as far as how we are constructing it. It’s going to be a very lonnnng season

  13. incredibleamadeuscho

What really pissed me off is that they asked him to sit at the end of last season. A superstar like him should compete until the very end, because he does not know how many years he has left. We saw other teams push on the gas pedal and have a lot of success.
