The Toronto Raptors Used To Pray For Times Likes This..

The Toronto Raptors are one of the youngest organizations in the NBA and since they began playing in 1995 they have always had the same problem, convincing players to stay. Some of the all-time greats in the NBA like Vince Carter and Kawhi Leonard found success with the team but opted for different futures away from the country of Canada. Fans used to pray for times of success and for times of not only players wanting to stay but star players wanting to be here.

When the Raptors won the NBA championship in 2019, it felt like a new era was beginning, one where talented players could see that their abilities to contend for a championship could extend beyond the north side of the border. That changed quickly when the aforementioned Kawhi Leonard took his talents to Los Angeles and joined the Clippers.

But now there is a start player who wants to stay, as two-time All-NBA forward and two-time all-star Pascal Siakam is seemingly halting trade negotiations by reiterating his stance that he has no intention to sign an extension with whoever trades for him. For now, Spicy P remains in Toronto but it feels like Masai Ujiri would change that if he could.

Multiple credible sources have said that Pascal Siakam intends on staying in Toronto and wants to sign here long term, but despite his wishes, it could be the front office who sends him away and it is the fans who are supporting it. The fan base used to pray the stars would stay, but now that one wants to, the fans want to send him away. How did the Toronto Raptors get here?

  1. Demar wanted to stay norm wanted to stay obviously jacob too we are getting use to trades happening for players who were loyal as well as players walking for cap space not for nothing for the feee agents we sign instead so everytime someone walked who did we replace with this is pretty much a trade but with the option to pick ur own trade pieces

  2. U can basically say we traded fred for shroder mcdaniels and future jacob rights all paid for with most likely the amount massi offered fred…..37 mil

  3. Extend Siakam and trade. Fred leaving is a solid core piece gone and is not getting replaced. Holding off on this rebuild just screws over the franchise for years later. The money Siakam gonna demand will make it hard to resign OG, Trent, and the rookie extension Scottie will be qualified for.a

  4. Hunter OO bufkin and griffen they want capella out more than hunter not the young players

  5. I don’t get why we haven’t extended PS and OG. PS is proven. He’s the best player on the team and has been since Kawhi left. Perhaps the chemistry between PS and Scottie needs work but that’s on the organization to provide an environment where growth and development can happen. It’s on the players to put in the work to develop themselves. PS puts in the work every year and with exception of Tampa has improved year after year. Scottie should pay attention to how this organization treat their homegrown stars.

  6. The FA argument is mute, look around the league FA don't really stay anywhere. Look no closer then Brooklyn or Philadelphia..

  7. Love pacers deal I saw today. Pascal for tj McConnell , buddy heild and jarace Walker, and two first round picks. Fixers back up PG, fixes 3 point need, and adds blue chip prospects. Do it now!

  8. This comes down to what the Raps want to do. Either rebuild or contend. They're at the crossroads. Pascal wants to stay, but wants that supermax. If you give him the supermax, then the front office has to improve the team…

  9. I think they don't want to pay Siakam if the championship is 4-5+ years away, it doesn't match the timeline with Scottie and Dick. It is better to get draft picks, Bufkin, Capella and Hunter and Flip Capella to Mavericks for Derrick Lively and first round picks and try to Match timeline for when Scottie and Dick are in their prime. They probably will throw Thad with Siakam to Hawks when Bufkin is available with first round, Capela and Hunter imo. Masai said there is only one winner, and rest are losers so might as build for better future since the path is too difficult at the moment imo. Poetl is 2 years younger than Siakam so they prolly will keep him still if Siakam gets shipped.

  10. We need to think what is best for the team in long term perspective, what is the need to pay PS max contract when you could not contend, could we win without a reliable PG in a very competitive league, isn't it better to invest in the future by using draft pick and wait prime Barnes-Dick to contend, we could have 3 or more lottery picks on the roster if Masai made a trade on draft night.

  11. Q. How much better would Toronto be if the traded Pascal? He is known to be close friends Jakob P. and now that he is signed for the next few years, my prediction is there will be no trade. The team is quite good now on paper and personally though I was a Fred V. fan, I also won't miss him long term. He missed a lot of games each year and caused numerous turnovers each year. The current roster is currently good and has depth. 2 thirds of the current NBA teams are so envious of the Raptors roster. So keep on developing with what you have especially with the new Head Coach. who is an excellent trainer of young talent. I still believe that Nick Nurse was the largest issue with the team last season.

  12. Raptors have been a perennial playoff team for the last decade. They have had very loyal players. It's a huge market as anyone can see. I don't understand why more players don't want to play here? It befuddles me.

  13. @jakob gramegna you see jerami grant get a 32 million a year for 5 years, if you think og is getting 30 million you are not being realistic. og is better than jerami grant and og likely get 37 to 43 million a year next summer.

  14. No Raptors fan wants to see Siakam go but if they go all in on Siakam then that means they need to get another Superstar player…. Which would require a trade that would gut the core…… which would theoretically give the Raps a 3 – 4 year window to compete. However if they trade Siakam for a combination of expiring contracts, young talent (doesn’t have to be all star level) and picks they get to develop Barnes and OG and GTJ get to expand their games. They would then extend their window to compete significantly from 3 years to 5,6,7 years….

  15. All star in the hand is always better than the nowhere near all star plus 2 distant future draft picks in the bush. Masai really needs to stop players from walking away for nothing and stop signing fringe players that aren't likely to play more than 10min a season to rack up dnp's and wear warmups imo

  16. Pascal is a very good player. But he hasn’t shown the last three years that he can take this team to the next level. Questions about his basketball IQ and isn’t clutch at the end of crucial games. Time to move off Malachi, Precious and Boucher too.

  17. Raptors is a farm team. We developed players and trade them and do it over again
