The fact of the matter is, *everyone* around the league was saying the same thing at the time:
“You can’t waste Joel Embiid’s prime!”
One would think if you’re trying to hit on a semi-short window of contention, you would trade for the *First Ballot HOF*, as opposed to trading for a guy with *1 year of NBA experience*.
Harden was always the right call, but he couldn’t bring back his Houston form post-hammy, and Embiid suffered untimely injuries in both playoff runs.

I don’t find it hard to believe that the Kings had no interest. Morey was clearly too focused on Harden, so he probably didn’t shop Simmons around aggressively.
