Kerr understands how to manage egos. What people miss in the CP3 thing is the issue of respect. Cp3 is a hall of famer. You don’t just come at him and expect for him to come off the bench from rip. He’s going to see that as disrespectful. You have to massage the ego. Kerr is smart. He knows to give Cp3 the respect he deserves. Then down the line when he inevitably asks him to come off the bench, CP3 won’t feel like it’s coming from a place of not valuing him. Gives it a better chance of going over well.

Regardless if you take this as deflecting, it’s true that you kind of have to see how things work first in practice before declaring who’s starting etc.
Kerr will talk him into it, he’ll be the main man running the second unit
The only thing I care about is CP3 being rested, rejuvenated, and healthy for the season.🤷🏽♂️
F*ck it let them start the small lineup and take CP3 out the first stoppage. If they lose every jump ball so be it.
Pretty clear message that CP3 won’t be with the team and he’s just trade bait for a team with too many bigs.

Predicting it now. CP3 comes into training camp as a “starter”. Then he’ll “graciously” suggest to the team/coach that he should lead the second unit for the betterment of the team. Play it off like that’s what real leaders do. It was his idea and not Kerr’s. He can save face. Same result, just wants to portray how they got there differently.
