Joe Johnson steps into the distributor role for coach Mike D’Antoni as the Suns had traded point guard Stephon Marbury to New York and hadn’t brought in Steve Nash yet. Johnson would put up 17 points and 11 assists operating as primary ball handler in pick and roll/pop sets, mostly with Amar’e Stoudamire and Antonio McDyess.
