People hating these 60+ million dollar salaries that are coming for NBA superstars.. but really they’ve been underpaid for a long time.

    That 700 milli tho, I can’t compute

  2. MethodMan_

Can’t really compare that contract to anything. Maybe LIV Golf only. Only Saudi is offering those types of insane contracts right now, even the best league in the world can’t offer that much. They are just spending from their unlimited oil funds, thinking this will all spark tourism to their country. Btw this isn’t a conspiracy theory or anything, the country has stated they want to move away from oil “eventually” by getting more tourism and so on. It’s not gonna happen. Also 1 billion is nothing to them. All this money and they won’t even help Arab refugees from neighboring countries.

Who the fuck needs that much money

  4. DMunnah

    “Football” money 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  5. Dumbo_Mutombo

Project Lebron has now become Project Mbappe. My kid gonna play for Saudi

  6. Its not from the football , its from the these governments that interfere with the football market. I wish we had the salary cap limit in european leagues too

  7. liljizbaby

I’m sure Bron will get a similar off in a few years when they start pushing their basketball league

  8. qkilla1522

His salary would be $200M. The rest is an estimate of incentives and profit sharing from TV and sponsorship deals. 770M and change is the maximum he could expect with that. So it would be like adding Lebron’s sprite, Nike (____ insert unlimited partnerships here) deals together with his salary.

  9. mogafaq

There’s no firm detail on what that contract is. Ronaldo’s supposed 200+ mil per year deal was less than 80 mil guaranteed with the rest in “commercial opportunities”. Won’t be surprised if this deal has even more inflated bullshit.

The whole Saudi league revenue came in at $120 mil last year and even their own optimistic goal is $480 mil by 2030, so this bubble won’t last. Not going to hate on athlete(s) getting their yearly pillaging of dumb Saudi gold. Literally taking years of a whole league’s revenue home in one signing.

  10. Tbh most of Lebron’s wealth came from commercials, businesses, movies and investments but still the amount of contract is impressive

  11. high-on-avocado

Saudi specifically. The top 4 is backed by Saudi PIF.

Oil Money is ruining the sport

  13. Western-Mission9307

All I can say is if I had that much money I’d make my own Lakers. I’d have Bron, KD, Tatum, literally whoever. I’d get Shaq bionic knees and get his ass out there too. The possibilities are endless with oil money

  14. ThatBigNoodle

Salary cap makes top end players underpaid and low/mid range players overpaid

  15. Winter-Gur-9762

Crazy how soccer is such a boring sport too and still makes this much money

  16. FlipSide26

And here we are in Australia competing for 3-4th in the world at Olympics and most of the players would be earning less than an NBA bench warmer!

  17. takeabreather

This isn’t really representative of football/soccer money though. This contract is massive compared to every other contract in the history of the sport. The average NBA player still makes about 3x the average Premier League player (arguably the richest league outside of this new Saudi money league).

  18. GallaeciRegnum

These numbers are very misleading and re NOT representative of football.

    To those unaware of the situation and interested in knowing how on earth those numbers are real (because they are), here’s a brief resume;

    – Mbappe is one of the top 3 players on earth as we speak. He’s in his absolute early prime at 24yo. Already a World Cup winner. Imagine a young 24yo Kobe Bryant with the potencial to challenge all greats,

    – PSG is a club with not much history. They are filthy rich because Arab oil money took over and the only instrument top stop them from buying everyone are flawed “financial fair play” rules who try to stop clubs to spend more than what they actually generate. It doesn’t work in case you didn’t noticed,

    – Mbappe was destined to play for Real Madrid. Real Madrid is one of the clubs that ALWAYS get the greatest players. As Ronaldo left and Benzema (their other great striker of the past decade) moved to Saudi arabia to end his career, Real started to revamp it’s roster and buy the some of most coveted young players on earth. Mbappe is one of the 2 potential GOAT strikers that fit the time line. Haaland his ” future rival”,signed for Manchester City last summer. Although Mbappe was linked with Real a few years ago, he was till very young and decided to stay in France. This was seen by everyone as a wrong move and it was indeed,

    – PSG’s approach was to win the Champions League and turn Mbappe into the French star of the team. They already had Neynar and then, 2 years ago…. they got Messi who was forced to leave Barcelona as the club was in financial crisis. Bringing Messi was a huge mistake. Messi got the spotlight. Mbappe was in the shadow. That’s not what he was promised. Furthermore, Messi was very underwhelming and PSG failed massively to impressed even with 3 of the top 5 players on earth and playing in a average league,

    – Mbappe got extremely frustrated by the club policy, the fans hating on the players and realized that spending more time in France was a death penalty on his career. He HAS to move to a top league and Real Madrid is the PERFECT destination,

    – Mbappe’s contract is up in one year. He refused to sign and extension. This si where things start to get messy. The board paid a ton of money for him and seeing him leave would be a massive loss. It wold also mean that the Star player holding the teams interested would be gone,

    – Arab owners aren’t used to this kind of challenges and have stated that they would either sell him for a massive amount of money (which Real Madrid doesn’t want to pay because the player is free in 1 year) or they would BENCH him as punishment,

    – Imagine benching 24yo Lebron because he refused to sing an extension. This would cause massive political and social issues. Some say that it is literal slavery as punishing someone for not wanting to work for you is pretty close even if we’re speaking of a multi millionaire,

    – As no one wants to pay the fee PSG is demanding (Haaland left for a modest 60M last season precisely because it was his last year under contract) the only way out of this is either PSG crashing and burning in several ways by Benching Mbappe or selling him to a Saudi club,

    – Saudi Clubs have been dropping massive amounts of money for fun recruiting well known players to bring notoriety to their league. Cristiano Ronaldo move last season was the beginning. Imagine a Saudi basketaball team starting to offer 100M a season to B+ players and even getting Lebron to retire. That’s what is happening,

    – As Mbappe suddenly became “available” one of those clubs, owned by some rich trillionaire price who bathes in petrol every morning just proposed to buy him out of PSG. Why would Mbappe ever agree to go on exile to a useless circus league while in his absolute prime (soccer players have to agree and have no league contracts like the nba)? Because he would then go to Real Madrid for “free” next season. And also because og his record breaking salary.

In other words, we’re talking about a near 1B rental. Surely, a lot of things are being discussed between Real and Al Hilal but these are unique circumstances. We won’t see a contract like this probably ever again. This is like Jordan getting paid 700M for one year off and then returning to a super team well rested and at age 25.

Everyone wins except fans who want to see him compete next season. I also hope this clown off season serve the purpose of establishing a salary and transfer cap in football. Things are going out of hand.

  19. severinks

Yeah but in all honesty you should have said middle eastern football money is wild because that payday has no relation to anything Messi or Renaldo got from any team.

  20. Fuckthebeard

I mean 531 million dollars is pretty wild too

  21. GoalPublic3579

Right but the amount of bang average players in the NBA who makes BANK compared to elite footballers is crazy though.

Like this Saudi shit is wild but in general look at player salaries. Mo Salah has been the best player in the biggest league in the world for like 5 years. Has 60m IG followers. Is the biggest arabic star in the worlds most popular sport. He makes $450k a week. The equivalent of $23.4m a year. Otherwise a mediocre NBA players salary and half what the likes of Bradley freaking Beal make.

  22. Fit_Guest4469

I find it hard to believe that one player can help a team generate more than $776 million for one season. That is wild.

  23. shortyman920

Nba looking at football money like American footballers be looking at nba money

  24. Jester252

This ain’t football money, this is stupid Saudi money that is creating a bubble just like China did.

Also won’t be suspired if there is some nonsense behind it. As in they get Mbappé to sign and hold out paying a good chunk of the deal due to him not “fullfilling” requirements

As an example FIFA has imposed a ban on Al Nassr, another PIF owned club, from signing new players due to their failure to pay Leicester City £390,000 in add-ons for Nigerian player Ahmed Musa, who joined Al Nassr in 2018. The ban comes as a consequence of Al Nassr’s non-compliance with FIFA’s ruling to settle the outstanding amount owed to Leicester City.

Like if they are that tight with 390k, I can’t imagine a 1B package being straightforward

And that is before you go into the geopolitics of a Saudi government owned club bailing out a Qatar government owned club

This is tag the sponsor but for men

  26. Warmheavy

Futbol is more popular than basketball.
