Does Josh Green finally breakout for the Mavs? | The Dallas Prospect

I’ve gone back and forth a bit on Josh Green’s potential in Dallas, and while I am still optimistic he can take a big step forward in year 4, I remain uncertain about inconsistent confidence offensively.

  1. Josh Green is just now 22, which is the same age Desmond Bane was in his rookie year. I expect him to make a big leap forward again this year. I just hope he can figure out how to play alongside Luka and Kyrie.

  2. I think another factor that affected Josh to struggle but not entirely the reason, but surely a factor was Kidd questionable lineups.

Why would he start Holiday, a low lvl role player that's new to the team? Especially when Josh did start, and proved he's capable!

  3. Mavs ended the season without a legit starting Center, PF, and SF. A bloody mess.
The rooks are gonna take some time(maybe a lot of it) Green is instrumental in being able to play the 3 and guard the guards our defenseless guards cannot guard. With Bullock and Dodo gone, he's all they got. They can hide luka on other teams forwards majority of nights. But they cannot hide short guards like Kyrie, Curry and Hardy.

I know some think that Omax(without ever playing a NBA player) is going to come right in and guard 4 positions.
I just have to say, Hey what did we learn that we weren't already told about him in the predraft. Long athletic defensive hustler with some offensive game. This was the scouting report for all NBA teams.
Now I like to think like others, that the mavs got a steal at 24 and we better hope that's the case.

The fact is he looks like his scouting report against other rookies. I'm thinking the other GM's didn't pick him higher, not because they don't see him that way, just that they obviously don't think he's a day one starter and probably has a lower ceiling.

Anyway the Mavs better hope he becomes at least Dodo(and has the tools to be better) But it did take him Years. And the Mavs really don't have Years to wait. Mavs have extreme lack of depth at the forwards spots and a extreme lack of starting centers at the 5. Green had better be better. Cause they are gonna want to put a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and really have to rely on him delivering.

I like him and his game. Just hope he's ready for another step up. Cause this could break him.(or make him a big fat contract). If it's the latter. I wonder if he's going to the Knicks…..

  4. Jkidd trying to rebuild his Nets finals teams can Josh be a version out Vince carter ceiling or Richard Jefferson floor is the real ? He’s no Vince in my eyes can he he be a prime version or RJ?

  5. If he doesn't show consistent high level play this year then i think we need to accept that this is what he is. I said this last year….and well….
How much longer is (To Be Continued)?

  6. I think we saw some different things from Green last season… Green is not and will never be a primary offensive option. And I couldnt care less. Is he efficient in his role (fastbreaks, corner 3's and attacking closeout off the dribble)? Yes he froze in the Playoffs in 2021 (as a 20 years old), but I didnt see those struggles at all last season! No idea where you saw them… His Usage went up month after month, till it plateaued in February/March (11.8% in Oktober, 17.2% in February, 15.6% in March). Cause next to Luka/Kyrie (and witzh Hardy getting more minutes), there is just less to do offinsively.

I see the exact same ceiling for Green as i see for O-Max. One being better offensively (Green) the other one being better defensively (O-Max). But O-Max could also be the next Michael Kidd-Gilchrist… We clearly know that Green is already way more then that!

I see Green as a 25-30 min starter for us this season, even without taking a big leap. So not sure where the "break it" part comes in. Even if he just stays the same player, he is a valuable piece on any roster. He will just not earn the big bucks.
