Giving him a trade kicker in exchange for no player option is smart.

Glad to have JB locked up long-term(and for all the endless, “Why hasn’t JB signed his supermax yet?” posts to die out also).

I get that there’s a part of the fanbase that’s worried about JB being overpaid, but also what exactly is your alternative here? Trade him for a worse, but cheaper player or try to get a better, but older player like Dame? Not a fan of either of those scenarios personally.

Plus my philosophy on supermaxes has always been that the player either needs to be an MVP or near MVP level talent to justify it(so that’s gonna be Tatum next offseason), *or* he needs to be one of your star players AND you’re already a contender. Brown’s contract situation definitely falls into the latter.

Trade Kicker at best just maxes his contract out in event he’s traded, which is fair. Either we win with him and he’s on a five year deal completely in our control, or we need to move him and he gets max value of his contract on a new team.

Edit: Also gives him more control if we do trade him, he could waive trade kicker for a team he prefers. But it doesn’t make enough of a difference for it to be a deal breaker.

    Jaylen got PAID

No player option is huge tho. The trade kicker I guess is alright since it’s pegged to the max anyways?

What weird sports day before noon. Bergy retired, Lebron son had a heart attack, JB getting his max extension. Just a lot flying through my head right now.

    Happy for JB tho

Bergy retires, JB signs a mega deal? Too many conflicting emotions right now
