BREAKING: Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension with the franchise, per sources. This is the richest deal in NBA history, negotiated by agent Jason Glushon. Fully guaranteed, with a trade kicker. No player option.

    > Trade kicker

He stays. Imagine having to pay 15% on top of $61m/y. Assuming it’s a 15% trade kicker that’s over $70m a year

Holy shit… Celtics just royally fucked up

I can’t even imagine what Tatum’s gonna get… in a few years their roster will be only Tatum, Brown, Porzingis and a bunch of vet min contracts

insane amount of money for someone who can’t dribble with his left hand

The dude who averaged 19 pts on 40% shooting in the conference finals against the play in team? 💀

I get that NBA stars are generally underpaid given the amount of revenue they generate, but holy shit this contract is insane.

No way we trade for him now

Boggles my mind that the biggest contract goes to… Jaylen Brown?!

Lmaoooo, I don’t understand paying a second option this much when he also got slightly exposed in the playoffs

  13. They had to do it but damn it still feels bad. They better hope they get it done this year or next year.

Well, I can’t wait until they have to pay us assets to take his contract for Hunter and an expiring Siakam in a few years

Good for him! I hope his agent disposed of the gun and mask after!

Hot take – this is good news.

Jaylen Brown is now a neutral asset on that contract with potential to become slightly negative if he takes a step back or plateaus next year. The trade kicker means Boston will have to pay 15% if they trade him, not the team that receives him.

I think Boston might still eat that cost and do a trade next year if Boston disappoints badly in the playoffs (e.g. 2nd round exit) especially if Brown’s performance is a mixed bag again.

On the new contract, I don’t think the return for Brown is as high as it might have been if he were traded this off season (even if the 60m/year was an inevitability). Psychologically it feels very different trading for a $60m guy vs a $26m guy.

Yeah jaylen brown is good but he isn’t worth more than 40 million a year imo. 60 million is literal insanity
