“I don’t think there’s any chance he signs an extension there ever, and if it was up to me I would trade Donovan Mitchell today,” Bontemps said on a Monday edition of “[The Hoop Collective Podcast](https://twitter.com/NBA_NewYork/status/1683519616327327764?s=20)” podcast. “I don’t think the Cavs are getting as far as they hope to next year, and I don’t think he’s gonna extend, and I think they’ll get a lot more for him with two summers left than they will with one summer left.

Can we have Lauri back?
im all for trading the dude if it doesnt look like hes gonna sign… but wheres all this “no chance ever” shit coming from? am i missing something? dude was pumped to join the team, has posted tons of stuff on his socials about enjoying his time here, i guess i just havent seen one negative thing yet. does he want to be a knick that badly or something?
Unsure after seeing Jaylen’s bag that the Cavs could afford him even if he wanted to stay if they also plan to max out Mobley. Imo, Mitchell isn’t that far off Jaylen market wise, so who the hell knows.
Bontempts is not an insider. This is pure speculation on his part without any inside information.

We only trade Mitchell if we get information *from him* that he doesn’t want to resign. These rumors are based on nothing other than his original trade request locations when he was in Utah. None of us can really know how he likes it in Cleveland with this squad. Trust he’s a class act and isn’t going to try and screw Cleveland over by ghosting us. He did right by Utah.
Breaking: NY Knicks fan and sportswriter uses his platform to advocate for a star NBA player to join the Knicks for nothing. This nearly-unprecedented move has only happed 10,000 times in NBA history
If you read the whole article it’s speculative. He says, and I’m sorta paraphrasing, “I think it’s more likely that they lose on the 1st rd again than a scenario where they win 2 rounds. If that’s the case, he’s gone.”
So it’s not from anyone in his camp, he doesn’t have a source, he’s just saying he thinks Cleveland is overrated and Mitchell won’t want to be a part of that if they lose again.
So this is, quite literally, nothing. It’s not a report, it’s not news, it’s an opinion on the state of Cleveland’s chances to go deep into the playoffs and what that may mean in the future.
Luckily for us, the Cavs don’t have to convince Bontemps to resign Donovan Mitchell’s contract.
Should’ve traded him for Jaylen Brown
But if im Cleveland i do trade him now. I would swap Donovan for rj barret and some picks. Im sick and tired of hearing about it every day. Its tiring for a fan.
He said “think” 4 times in 2 sentences. We can all make the same claim the opposite direction. Who cares what this guy says.
Bring back Sexland!
Financially it would still make sense for him to sign the super max in Cleveland then request a trade.
“nba insider” lol
Love all these “insider” guys. Doesn’t seem like they have a clue
Bontemps is not an insider. He’s not a reporter.
Maybe, but Bontemps is is a clown and I’d give his opinion as much weight as anyone on this reddit.
He loves to speak definitively on things that’s are not close to definitive, and I think he has as many sources as you or I.
Who was the last superstar to even hit free agency? They all sign the extension and then force a trade to wherever they want to go. That’s the more likely outcome and if that happens we’ll at least get players and picks back
Yea, ok
The media was always going to play these games.
We dealt with this x1000 with Bron.
“First time?”
