Making sense of the Toronto Raptors front court log jam | Is Vision 6’9 alive and well once again?

In Episode 1451, Sean Woodley goes solo to discuss the Toronto Raptors very imbalanced roster, and the sneaking feeling that Vision 6’9, once thought to be dead as a team-building philosophy for the Raptors, is in fact very alive and well. Is that a good thing, though? Off the top, Sean digs into why the concept of building a whole roster out of 6’9 guys is actually pretty sound, except for the fact that players with the requisite skills to make offense run smoothly who are also 6’9 are extremely hard to find, even before you factor in the many elements of team building that are out of a front office’s control. And yet, here the Raptors are, once again loaded with 10 guys in the 6’7 through 7’0 range and not many guards in support. Next, Sean looks at the logjam at the forward position for the Raptors, hypothesizes on which guys might be in or out of the rotation, and discuss why there are certainly going to be some fun and interesting things about watching this year’s Raptors, even if they don’t end up being good. Lastly, Sean answers some listener questions about where Chris Boucher fits into the picture, whether Jalen McDaniels should be prioritized ahead of someone like Otto Porter Jr., and some interesting, all-6’9 lineup combos the Raptors might be able to run out.

  1. The problem with your philosophy of being adverse to change and not making changes is that now we end up trying to balance out a roster when players are at their lowest value. If Pascal, Fred or OG were traded a year ago when we knew this roster couldn't compete in the playoffs, you get actual returns for them. Now we're stuck with a glut of forwards who won't briny back equivalent value despite there being a desperate need for guard upgrades.

  2. Vision 6'9 is shifting from defence to offence just cuz we got a center now don't mean it's not still hustle and length the factor that is the change is needing to switch on def as often to cover Fred's miss matching Barnes trent siakam og are still able to switch 1-4 that's the main place the switching is an advantage on def anyway contesting at the line late clock 3s. They can match up more easily one on one now on def but they still have advantages in length. The thing that is going to b key to look for now is the switching on offence more we have 4 wings that can switch on offence more easily 1-4 around Jacob in the middle

  3. I'm with u on boucher for wright unless Massi can get a multi player trade like boucher and Thad or Otto for something more

  4. Dude, we lost FVV not Steph Curry and we brought in 4 additional guards and 1 forward. You may not like the guards, you may not think that they are gonna be able fill the immeasurable void that FVV is leaving, but don't say the front office has filled the loss of FVV with more forwards
