Why Daryl Morey & 76ers can’t treat James Harden’s trade request like Ben Simmons’ | 3 Points

Chris Mannix is joined by Philadelphia 76ers beat writer Keith Pompey to discuss the ongoing drama between James Harden and the Sixers. They discuss why Daryl Morey’s job could be in jeopardy as he lured Harden to Philadelphia and whether Morey is willing to hold out for a trade like he did with Ben Simmons. They also discuss why Joel Embiid’s growing frustration with the front office affects their ability to rebuild the roster and how Ime Udoka’s hiring with the Houston Rockets ended Harden’s chances to be traded there.

  1. Because they are two completely different players with two completely different contractual situations with two completely different market demands at two completely different points in their career?

Also as Keith touched on Simmons was a problem Morey inherited. Harden is a problem that Morey created. Morey could throw Doc under the bus if the Simmons situation didn’t work out, but Nurse has more job security than Morey now. The ownership was willing to pay Simmons and try to bring him back, but was prepared to let Harden walk for nothing – nobody on the Sixers side made him exercise his option. Morey has nobody to blame, no contract controlled player to move and no support from ownership to help him get out of this situation. It’s totally different.

  2. Wishing a speedy recovery to Bronny James. Having a heart attack at such a young age… Damn. 😢

  3. So 20pts 10ast is not good ok blame the Boston loss on Harden the media working pretty hard to drive his value down. Who else played well in that Boston series please tell me? Bench was terrible, Embiid was terrible and I'm tired of hearing he was hurt because he's always hurt that should tell you something, Maxey was very inconsistent, Tobias was terrible, PJ does nothing on offense and the coaching was horrible but hey Blame Harden when he was asked to take a back seat and play a specific role and your leader MVP was garbage in the series. He doesnt dominate the paint both offense and defense, settles for too many jumpshots especially at the 3pt line and he's the worst passer in the league instead of passing to the open man he still trys to shoot over three people buy hey Blame Harden because I mean he was the best player for the sixers in that series.😂😂😂

  4. Keith “I think Nick is a much better coach than Doc. It’s not a knock on Doc.” 😂 Uh, yes it is Keith.

  5. Bringing James back would be the definition of insanity. Tried it twice. Didn’t work. It wasn’t all James fault. He was actually better than Embiid in the playoffs. Those two just don’t fit together. They need the ball too much and drain the shot clock. Zero ball movement.
The clippers do not want to run it back and they desperately need a pg. Westbrook is not a starting championship pg. Daryl needs to wait it out.

  6. James needs to go…Hos track record speaks volumes. What do you people not understand❓️ He does not want to be with The Sixers…🤦🏾‍♂️

  7. What “game” is Harden sacrificing by playing in Philly? He’s not scoring more than 25 ppg anymore no matter where he goes. He’s not a #1 option anymore. His legacy’s best chance is to play with someone like Embiid.

  8. *Play or whatever happens is on you*. No it on Harden and the Sixer organization. If Harden makes this as ugly as you know he can make it. You lose Harden for nothing and Embiid demands out.

  9. I have never been a Harden fan but he was not the fault for the Sixers exit last year in that there is plenty of blame to be shared with Embid, Rivers and others. That said, the team has a new ( and better coach) and has the pieces to at least get to the final ( although the Bucks and Celtics are on paper better teams) but of course certain things have to break in their favor. Harden has to decide whether he wants to help himself by being mature and playing well ( if he starts the season with the Sixers) so as to increase his value . He has already cost himself a great deal of money over the past 2 years and he has to realize he cannot get it back but can only further reduce his value and future contracts. Based on past history, I suspect he will be stubborn so that even if he ends up with the Clippers , he still hurts his value.
