Biggest reasons to criticize the Toronto Raptors offseason & the ways it can still be turned around

In Episode 1452, Sean Woodley is joined by Katie Heindl (DIME, Basketball Feelings) to discuss where they think the Toronto Raptors have most misstepped in their offseason dealings, and why there should be some benefit of the doubt baked in regarding pending moves that still could come as the summer trade market develops. Plus, they take a look at the ongoing situation surrounding the Toronto Raptors’ ownership situation and how it could affect the team’s decision-making. Off the top, they chat about the biggest reasons why the Raptors’ front office is deserving of criticism this offseason, from their misreading of the Fred VanVleet situation, to the public nature of the Pascal Siakam trade and contract saga, to their lack of a stated direction for the franchise going forward. All that said, there are some reasons to give Masai Ujiri, Bobby Webster and company the benefit of the doubt as they wait for dominoes to fall around the league, and there are certainly some ways by which they could salvage the offseason and make it into something close to a success. Lastly, Sean and Katie chat about the ongoing situation with the Toronto Raptors ownership group, as Larry Tanenbaum attempts to sell a stake in his holding company. Could this be the first step in a major change in how the Raptors’ ownership group operates? And what could that mean for the Raptors going forward?

  1. teams in other leagues, and the nba for that matter get things done with players when in the off season before the final year of their contract. whether it's extending them or trading them. they screwed up wit fvv and now they are in the same situation with 2 more important pieces of their team. poor asset management?

  2. Blame Ujiri for not trading FVV at the trade deadline. But he needs kudos for not over paying Freddie, that contract is beyond ridiculous and goes down as one of the worst contracts ever. There are 28 other NBA executives who would agree that $40M+ for FVV is silly. No one could have predicted that Houston would come in and bomb the market.

  3. Its well known within the NBA that nobody wants to make trades with Danny Ainge. Yet, he still goes out and makes BIG trades that surprise everyone. Masai has done so in the past, but lately his moves have been underwhelming.

  4. Don’t clown change can manifest in many ways not only with player movement be patient with respect your not professional sports GM’s or presidents your just people with opinions and everyone has one

  5. There is no wrong it's the benefit of Massi the guru I believe he is making the right moves when the time comes to make em nothing is determined to go out of our favour we are still set to have everyone wanting to stay here who we have developed
