The NBA free agency period is happening during the summer, and many significant deals have yet to be finalized, which could significantly impact Zion Williamson’s future. The biggest chain reaction depends on Damian Lillard, who has requested a trade after spending 11 years with the Blazers. If Lillard is traded before the start of the 2023 season, it could pave the way for Zion to land in Portland, as the rumors have indicated.

There were reports before the NBA Draft that Zion’s relationship with the Pelicans and his teammates wasn’t in the best shape, adding more fuel to the trade speculations. Zion has had a tumultuous career since joining the NBA, carrying enormous expectations as the first overall draft pick. Unfortunately, his health has been a concern, with injuries limiting him to just 29 games last season and causing him to miss the entire previous season due to foot surgery.

Despite that, when he’s on the court, he shines, averaging 25 points per game and 7 rebounds since his arrival in 2019. His exceptional skills led the Pelicans to offer him a maximum contract extension worth $193 million over 5 years last summer.
