The Rockets Have Been Using Jabari Smith Completely Wrong.

Jabari Smith Jr. is one of the most polarizing rookies of the 2022 NBA Draft. The Houston Rockets selected him with the 3rd overall pick after Jabari Smith was speculated to have been the target for the Orlando magic with the #1 overall pick.

Jabari Smith Jr. was more often than not just stuck in the corner while most of the young guards on the Rockets took turns trying to score, but I truly believe that there is a lot more to Jabari Smith Jr’s game than that. Now that the Houston Rockets have parted ways with Stephen Silas in favor of bringing in former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka, I have a feeling Jabari Smith Jr. will be in a much better position to succeed next year.

I looked at how Ime Udoka used Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown during the 2021-22 NBA season, and how those same schemes can help extract a lot from Jabari this year. The way Summer League went for Jabari Smith is a glimpse into the future too.

The mismanagement of Jabari Smith Jr highlights how it’s one thing to draft a player, it’s another thing entirely to know how to use them right.

  1. silas was such a stinker of a coach lol, as far as x and os goin from silas to udoka is prob the biggest upgrade this offseason, he also has a real pg now so he should have some better looks and jus easier offense in general, in summer league was he was clicking tho.. he wasnt hittin those shots last season, hand in his face stepbacks, i think hes gonna have a big year fr, confidence goes a long way as well, he looks good rn

  2. well it doesn’t help that your coach (silas) blatantly says he doesn’t run plays for you.
im SOOO glad we have udoka now.

  3. Silas coaching of Jabari last year was mind numbing as a rockets fan. Looking forward to how productive he is next to two established PG’s and a more defensive minded coach

  4. Seeing how Udoka figured out the Celtics rotation, I think he'll find the right roles for these young guys

  5. Thanks for the rockets breakdown. I know it’s probably not gonna be the best video for you numbers wise but I’m definitely gonna watch it twice

  6. Remember how people considered Stephen Silas an offensive genius because he "coached" Luka on offense? hilarious

  7. With Silas gone and the addition of FVV, Whitmore, and Amen, the rockets core is looking real nice!

  8. I've been saying that all year and I'm a Laker fan. Rockets Front office is TRash. That crap offense Silas was running was horrific. His Father was a great coach. He should never coach again.

  9. I think under Ime, if Green doesn't show signs of defense or better playmaking for others, he will no longer be the leader of the Houston Rockets. He can give some good scoring outputs, but he's not effective. JSJ, on the other hand, I can see being a 2nd or 1st option in the upcoming years. He's a pretty good defender, he should be able to find more comfort scoring and picking his spots. He has potential to be a modern day KG, if used correctly.

  10. He was the projected 1st overall pick all pre-draft for a reason. Can't wait until Udola gets these boys clicking. Houston gonna have a chance to add some star talent soon. I think he should be the young guy they hold onto

  11. Jabari will be key to this team so they have to get him working. Thompson and Green will be a hyper athletic backcourt but that won’t work without outside shooting. If anything they need at least another starter calibre three point shooter to get the best out of the backcourt.

  12. Great video. You gained a subscriber!
My friend (who's an idiot) gave up on Jabari last season. Can't wait for his comeback 🔥

  13. He needs to do a better job of going for threes when the opportunity is there. He has a bad habit of driving and settling for long 2’s

  14. Summer league is summer league, but that is just icing on top of his last two months in the regular season last year. I'm high on what he'll become.

  15. I don't think Jabari had a bad first season. I think he had a similar season as Giannis had in his first season.

  16. Jabari Smith's uncle is stephen a smith. He is the brother of jr smith and joe smith. Cousin of craig smith, steve smith and kenny smith.
