The Harsh Truth About The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful teams in the NBA over the last 5-6 years, but they haven’t been able to win a championship. Fundamentally speaking, this team is a lot more flawed than you might think which has hindered them in the conference finals and NBA finals. So today, we go over some of the harsh truths of the Boston Celtics and explain why they’re farther away from a chip more than you think.

  1. 100%. Smart was a big problem on this team, been saying it for years. It’s really sad how 3 different coaches couldn’t figure out that you need to bench him late game, otherwise the ball will be in his hands

He was always a bench player

  2. Well as a Celtics fan you're certainly right that this was harsh, but I also can't really disagree with any of what you've said here. The C's started off last season with a much more dynamic, much more motion heavy offense that used a lot of secondary offball actions under Mazzulla, and that simply faded away after the first couple months of the season before pretty much becoming nearly the exact same offense from last playoffs, and it left the offense much more predictable and easier to counter.

Offensively Porzingis should help a lot as he gives the C's a truly dynamic offensive front court threat which the team has been missing for some time now, and while Smart's playmaking will be missed, I can't say that I'll miss seeing teams sag off of him late. If healthy Porzingis should give the team a much needed boost when it comes to trying to break zone defenses alongside Tatum.

Defensively I wonder if we'll see the Celtics take some cues from the Heat when it comes to zone concepts, especially as the team seems poised to move away from the switch heavy defensive schemes of years past with Smart gone on top of no longer having a big capable of stepping out onto the perimeter full time(Horford has finally lost enough speed on the perimeter that I wouldn't trust him to switch much in the playoffs, and Rob while a capable defender in ISO situations is nowhere close to what Horford was even 2 seasons ago).

Regardless I think the C's did need a shakeup, and Porzingis is it. Hopefully it finally leads to breaking through and capturing banner 18.

  3. Yano as a Celtics fan, I figured this was just gonna be a hate video. But you came in with facts about how they played, advised on what they could do to make it work.. and spoke on how basketball is actually played. I respect you for this. Great coaching advice in this

  4. I still can't stand tatums shooting form. It's the same every time, but the whole windup and mechanical look of it just piss me off

  5. Why did I feel like I was watching a homestead gardening DIY version of pro sports? The music, attention to detail, and the soothing voice narration

  6. All these comments making it sound like the Cs didnt know this was an issue already……..I think trading Smart for Kristaps speaks volumes to everything this guy mentioned in the video.

  7. Since JT and JB came together they have made conference finals almost every year and the finals once. And that's without a true big man. This is the first season they have a versatile big who can help play D on the interior and shoot. Elite bigs have almost always been the reason the Cs lose in the playhoffs. Things should look a little different this season. JT and JB are still so young and I think people forget that they have been winning since they came into the league.

  8. The Filthy Frank BGM was the best part of this video, had me going "that sounds familiar" for a minute.

  9. I’m probably not the first to notice this but i just now heard that your background music is stfu by pink guy 😂

  10. as a celtics fan this is one of the only breakdowns on our lack of success that’s made sense. great video brotha

  11. They got so many holes yet still one of the top teams in NBA. Hope they fix their offense 'cause relying on the Jays to make plays is not really working for two straight years now. Tatum shows progress on that regard but Brown isn't.

  12. You're really missing the point with the 1/4 in the ECF comment: they've made 5 ECFs before either of their best players are even in their primes…

These players won also hadn't won a championship at 26:

    Michael Jordan
    Lebron James
    Steph Curry
    Shaq
    Wilt Chamberlain
    Hakeem

    Just to name a few…
