This is fantastic news. Players should be able to influence where they land, but shouldn’t be able to have sole control of their destination and if for some reason Dame sits this year he 100% should be fined for breach of contract.
Right because the teams totally were happy with the player doing this, so why not punish them worse
no hate for dame at all because the blazers are well…. yeah.. but this is a weird situation all around. I’m sure he could’ve been picked up by another team already but this is def awkward for every other team.

More so than any other major professional sports league in this country, the league is driven by individual stars. I don’t have an issue with the superstars of the game having more pull.
Even the way it’s worded: “requests” not “demands”. Like in the case of Dame, his request *doesn’t* have to be granted, it’s not like Portland is handcuffed here. Litigating “requests” seems wrong imo

It’s already against the CBA to say you want to play for another team while under contract:
[Any player (or, for clarity, any player representative or person acting with authority on behalf of a player) who publicly expresses a desire to be traded to another Team shall be subject to a fine and/or a suspension. As the league should. I personally don’t like it when players sign a long term deal and then demand a trade after a year or so, but I don’t think league will ever legislate that away. But absolutely a player without a no trade clause should not be able to dictate a single team they must be traded to.
I don’t mind when a guy requests a trade but I do scoff at the entitlement players feel when they think they can dictate the terms of said trade.

I want more info on what the penalty is. If it’s something lame like 50K fine then it’s not gonna do anything. Adam Silver needs to start being tougher on the players. They shouldn’t run the league.
