Do Lakers Players Not Want Christian Wood? And Who’s the Best fifth Starter? Rui? Vando? Prince?

For a guy potentially slated to make a veteran’s minimum deal, the final destination for free agent big man Christian Wood has garnered a lot of attention and rumor mill grist, much of connecting him to the Lakers, who are outwardly on the market for a forward/center. But has Wood, often regarded as an empty calories, me-first scorer, unwanted among the most important Lakers? According to what Lakers Nation’s Trevor Lane (joined here by LN cohort Sean “Spaces” Davis) heard while in Vegas for Summer League….

Maybe??

While it wasn’t clear exactly which Lakers are cold on the idea of Wood, that his presence could prompt mixed enthusiasm in the locker room is a big deal. Lane and Davis help chop up what it all means moving forward, and whether that apprehension could mean going in another direction. We also discuss the potential fifth starter alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves and (most likely) D’Angelo Russell. Many are assuming Rui Hachimura, with his new sizable contract and scoring skills, is the frontrunner, but is there a case to be made for Jarred Vanderbilt or Taurean Prince? Plus, Davis found an interesting stat about the history of NBA championship defense that could underscore the Denver Nuggets as a vulnerable defending champ. What does that mean for the Lakers, who lost to the Nuggets in the conference finals?

Host: Andy Kamenetzky, with Guests Trevor Lane and Sean “Spaces” Davis.

Segment 1: Are there important Lakers who don’t want Christian Wood? How much should that matter?

Segment 2: Who’s the ideal fifth starter?

Segment 3: Is Denver vulnerable against a repeat, and why?

  1. "a four that can do all the things, or a center, who can do all the things that you want for AD but also play the role defensively that you wouldn't want Lebron to play" — can you go in depth and who this hypothetical player can be? Would love to know if this hypothetical player would be available in trade deadline

  2. Rob get a center who can spread the floor. Wood, Meyers Leonard, Blake Griffin all shoot 3-pointers and may only play a few minutes. Lakers have centers who clog up the lane and block shots like AD, Jax and Castleton

  3. Vanderbilt will not get that many shots with the other four starters his defense might help make up for Lebrons and Dlos lack of D

  4. I don’t get how Vando a Pro NBA player can’t shoot , they been playing this game since they were kids 24/7

    Same like Simmons and draymond

  5. I swear…. every video these guys do lately seem to be about mf Wood. Pelinka better not screw up the roll he has been on this year and listen to anybody thinking Wood will be some star center for us.

  6. I think great chemistry can lift a team’s ceiling but isn’t necessarily required to win a championship. Case studies: warriors last year had destroyed their chemistry and they fell flat. Lakers with Russ chemistry was awful and they were terrible, once they traded him yes they got better players arguably even though the minutes they play except for Rui and Dlo were small the chemistry skyrocketed and they were awesome! The Cavs in 2016 finals are interesting because it’s been reported Kyrie wasn’t really talking to anyone on the team and they still ended up pulling off the impossible. So I would say you can still win a chip even if chemistry is off but I think great chemistry can maximize a team’s ceiling.

  7. Can we get the front office show next . I really love the locked on lakers approach and show keep up good work

  8. I love how you guys all pencil in Austin as a starter 🤣. Reality check incoming and he’ll be back to where he belongs. Off the bench

  9. What is the obsession over Christian Wood? It’s not like he’s gonna do anything to stop Jokic.

  10. If Anphony daviss is the reason Wood is not here, I think that's STUPID. To allow a part-time player to dictate the roster is ridiculous. If it's a schematic "fit" problem on the floor, that's another matter. Why not bring him in for a test drive (Min Contract), and if he's a liability – package him and move on

  11. Since the Lakers now have surplus of wings, the starting line-up should be match-up dependent. For example, if Lakers face GSW, the line-up should look like this.
    PG – Gabe
    SG – AR
    SF – LBJ
    PF – Vando
    C – AD

    If, Denver
    PG – Dlo
    SG – AR
    SF – LBJ
    PF – AD
    C – Rui

  12. The easy solution is this. We already have the pieces. We start Max. He can play defense, shoot, rebound and handle the ball. Ruin, Vando and Dlo off the bench. Start Castleton at the five so AD play where he likes to be. Castleton is already better than the vet min guys that have shown they can't play.

  13. AD is going to find a way to produce bc he’s AD. But… Longevity wise, AD needs to be at the 4 the majority of the time. Definitely need a bigger body than Hayes next to AD though… Prefer to have Hayes off the bench with a quicker run and fun squad.

  14. Shawn is such a fanboy. Stop commenting dude. Vando can’t score period. It’s better to play ahead that from behind. Use vando in situational defense situations and that’s it 12-14 minutes per game. Period. Rui will open up the paint for ad and lbj , Rui , reeves and dio will be wide open. Do u even watch basketball??? Put vando for 3-4 minutes per qtr and he can lock down the bench and hold the lead. Genius

  15. For a quick second I was like I thought I clicked on the Locked On Lakers Did I Click on Lakers Nation ha ha Always a pleasure to see a Killer Crossover 😂❤

  16. Go with Prince as the starter for spacing around LBJ and AD. Rui/Vando/Vincent as high minutes guys off the bench

  17. Still have ptsd from that weak ass trade concept stream on B/R from Sean
