Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson and Ben Simmons mean the Nets can get creative with lineups

With the Brooklyn Nets roster mostly filled out at this point, it’s time to start thinking about how lineups could shake out. Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and even Ben Simmons could give the team significant flexibility when it comes to 5-man rotations and combinations.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss a number of different lineup scenarios for the team and how guys like Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, Dennis Smith Jr. Dorian Finney-Smith, Lonnie Walker and more factor in.

For a team in relative transition, Jacque Vaughn and company will have a lot of possibilities to sort out.

  1. Based on Shams latest reports of what Miami wants to offer for Damian Lillard Brooklyn involvement as the third team makes too much sense. The 2025 Suns draft pick allows Miami to trade the necessary picks and Brooklyn has the expiring contracts to acquire Tyler Herro 🔥🔥🔥.

A potential core five of Mikal Bridges Tyler Herro Cam Johnson Nic Claxton and Ben Simmons could really allow Brooklyn to compete at a high level together and bring fun basketball back to the Barclays…..

  2. Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Tyler Herro Nic Claxton and Ben Simmons would be a great starting five….

Ben Simmons can run point guard setting up Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Tyler Herro and Nic Claxton up for some great assist buckets. Tyler Herro can focus on being a primary scoring guard and get lots of opportunities with Simmons running point. Mikal Bridges can focus on playing great defense and finding his own scoring opportunities while Cam Johnson could see a big increase in his three point scoring. Nic Claxton meanwhile could see a bigger scoring output having Ben Simmons and possibly Tyler Herro setting him up for some easy lobs 🔥….

  3. I think the hardest part of the Nets plight back to being a title contender started after the "big three" were traded. The new players, we received, are high character journeymen. For the short time they've played together, their cohesion has potential to improve. It would be wise to see how far that could go. We have a new head coach with his hand picked assistants. We traded away players that no longer fit our future plans, drafted and made wise acquisitions. No impulsive trades for players with huge contracts were made while at the same time our financial situation was improved. It would be counterproductive to try to acquire player that we need, in one season, to build the roster to what Marks and JV envision. Making strategic and incremental moves is the game plan moving forward. My compliments to Sean Marks's cool discipled approach. I wish for his success because it'll mean the Nets will succeed.

  4. I actually dont hate this roster..If you think about dropping in a superstar a yr from now..and finding a good trade or free agent to load into that..we have a pretty good group thats young for one and will surely clamp on defense..The one thing ive been thinking about is I really dont want to trade DFS i know people have pushed it have talked about it..but when you talk about this roster..you realize you need DFS..besides Bazely we have no big stretching the floor or guarding 4s and bazelys not even fully gtd yet lol..Cam Johnson is more of a SF and always will be..Royce Oneal is the guy that needs to be moved for me..theres like no room for him at the 2..Unless they envision him as Cam J backup at SF..I dunno just seems redundant..Too small to consistently play that 4 spot & i just think DFS is the better player..One thing for sure im not totally sold on Simmons being Simmons but i am sold on this run & gun locked down D get out in transition..its been awhile since we started a training camp with the mindset of not playing Grandpa basketball..Theres many questions marks but i honestly cant wait for Szn to get here & find out

  5. We acquired 4 new players, which became part of our starting lineup, after the "big three" trades. 7 new players, (2 two-way players included) were added this offseason, also. That's a total of 11 new players that we have to work with. I hope Nets fans realize it's common to take several years for players to develop the chemistry needed to be competitive. There isn't a quick fix to that regardless of how great the talent. The "big three" experiment should serve as the biggest example of that. One of the main reasons they were an abysmal failure was because they didn't play together long enough to develop cohesion/chemistry. Although mixing and matching players are a part of building a successful team, stability, team chemistry and continuity are too important to a team's success to minimize. Nets fans high expectations should be kept in check while we go through future growing pains. Having patience is one of the keys.

  6. Okay Lonnie Walker is your third best on ball shot creator, so I have no clue why y'all don't have him in more line ups

  7. @Adam Armbrecht I appreciate your constructive criticism, optimism, sense of humor, wit and smile. It's, always, seem obvious that you're having fun with the LON pod cast. I don't pay this compliment to get a "like star" recognition. Doug, on the other hand, wear the scowl, on a regular basis, of someone that's just had a root canal. You're two peas in the same pod, never the less.

  8. I hope that Cam Thomas will get plenty of minutes & take plenty of shots with a some what decent defending around him. Be funny if he becomes our gun shooter.

  10. Very interesting topic and great discussion! There are so many combo options. It’s going to be hard to get all of these players meaningful minutes. I’m glad you brought Lonnie Walker into the discussion. I think he can be a bigger part of this team than most people are envisioning right now. Doug…I really liked your “chaos” unit. That would be interesting to watch. Also…I’m thinking we are going to see Cam Johnson’s game take a leap forward this year.

  11. If our defense is NOT top 10 this year, I’m a stop talking about good defenders and bad ones… for a long time

  12. I’m curious to what lineup they run in late game situations taking into consideration Ben and clax struggle at the free throw line

  13. First of all nobody should actually wanting to drink any Ben Simmons Kool aide. Jeez people don’t learn. You get some Instagram posts and leaked quotes from Ben Simmons AGENT and all sudden Ben Simmons is 100 percent. You also get a bunch player quotes about Ben Simmons allllllll around the same time after months of them saying practically nothing. Seems a bit calculated and rehearsed to me.
I’ve been very consistent on the Ben stuff. I believe the back has been an issue for sure BUT I believe his issues are more mental and that he has the Basketball yips. It started with the sixers before he was hurt. Having a bad back didn’t stop him from taking open layups. The he only I’ll be drinking any Ben Simmons Kool Aide is when the season starts he gets on the floor for a significant amount of games and he is shooting the basketball, slashing to the rim, and hitting free throws at a reason rate. For me Ben Simmons needs to show people on the NBA basketball court.

Second, a guy that I’m really actually excited about and not discussed nearly enough by Doug and Adam is Deriq Whiteside. This dude before he got hurt was a top five talent. I’d love to know what his timeline is for getting healthy because if that dude is fully back to his explosive self then you have something.
