[Shultz] Orlando Magic appear to be the first NBA team… ever? to back a presidential candidate: $50k to Ron DeSantis’s Super PAC

Rest of tweet:

>I asked spox to clarify if donation should instead be attributed to owner Richard DeVos; response was “we don’t comment publicly on political contributions”

Magic fans does this feel different at all than owner contributions or about the same?

Curious…do the Magic need a new stadium?

  2. Sammcbucketts

They might as well have lit 50K on fire, Davos is big on “education reform” so it makes sense tho.

  3. JasonKelceStan

I have a reason to cheer against the magic that’s weird as hell

    “Sees the name DeVos”

Oh. Fuck the Magic. Sell the team.

  4. honestnbafan

It’s kind of funny because despite the NBA’s public political image I’m pretty sure the vast majority of owner donations have gone to the GOP

Obviously this would be true of the DeVos family but it’s true across the entire league as well

  5. IdRatherBeLurking

Alas, it’s “fuck the Magic” from now on 🙁

  6. allknowerofknowing

Desantis Kanye 2024 stickers gonna be a part of the Magic uniform

  7. RandomBiped

One has to admire the franchises commitment to losing

  8. chickenripp

    fuck the magic

all my homies hate the magic

  9. the sub shocked and stunned today by who billionaires donate to and vote for

  10. WhenItsHalfPastFive

super unfair to the players on the team when garbage team owners do this shit

  11. Hogo-Nano

Such a weird dumb thing to do PR wise. Rule one is to be a-political if you are a huge brand.

  12. Active_Page_3886

Damn I guess Jonathan Isaac won’t be getting traded to Dallas anytime soon

  13. AntSmith777

Jonathan Isaac getting a max no doubt

  14. bloopcity

think stuff like this affects players’ free agency decision? i doubt it’d really be on their radar tbh

  15. Splittinghairs7

Lol at donating $50k to a candidate that’s losing by 37 points to someone who’s been indicted on multiple felonies.

  16. xBerryhill

Funny seeing people in here only just now discovering our ownership group and where they align lol

Trust me, most Magic fans aren’t thrilled with it either. Outside of having deep pockets they haven’t brought much else to the organization.

  17. SnooPies6274

Yeah as a Magic fan I can’t agree with this. Bad look all around. DeSantis is an absolute joke of a human being.

  18. Magic are owned by the royal family of dark money politics.

  19. AnonymousIguana_

Celtics should simply boycott the Magic, for only this reason and definitely not our record against them last year.

  20. Yung_Hibachi

Fuck the owners, all fans wish they would sell.

  21. sexygodzilla

Well it fits that they’re backing a loser with no shot at winning it all.

  22. ddottay

Lol it’s not just the Magic’s owners who give to Republicans, people shouldn’t be surprised

  23. prettymuthafucka

Are they still sponsored by Disney too?

  24. ThereAreDozensOfUs

I wonder how Jonathan Isaac feels about slavery being deemed a positive

Then again, we all know that dude is grifting

  25. _canadianbacon

Johnathan Isaac has some explaining to do

  26. SlapsLikeFlea13

Like I know it’s not great for an organization to back ANY political candidate, but why is everyone so shocked lmao? The Devos family have been very vocal in the past about where they stand. People are just now getting mad because they backed Desantis. This isn’t new?

  27. NewCryptographer8934

Interesting. Disney is their main jersey sponsor. Interesting how this will pan out.

  28. schafkj

Orlando Magic throw away 50k to candidate with snowball’s chance in hell of even being nominated by his own party. DeSantis is an absolute loser whose “anti-woke” obsession is hurting the state. So of course another loser like Rich DeVos would throw away the equivalent of a penny.

  29. citrixn00b

Disney’s still the sponsor of the Magic, right?

  30. whitedawg

“I’m just here so that I don’t get my tax breaks taken away.”

  31. queuedUp

I honestly wonder if the team opening supporting a Republican candidate will have an impact on player signings in the near future

  32. GhostOfJiriWelsch

Dam man, talk about lighting $50K on fire.

The more people see of pudding Ron, the more they realize he’s the worst kind of beltway freak. No charisma and no concrete policy positions outside of screeching about trans/gay people and advancing white grievance culture.

Trump is a ghoul but he’s actually got a personality and is legitimately funny. “Meatball Ron” is fucking hilarious. He’s an idiot but he actually has far better political instincts than Ron.

  33. BobaFartsFadeaway

So is this the family that gave us that Betsy Devos lady?

  34. Nin9RingHabitant

This is positive for me as a fan. I want Shaq to own the team and maybe this is the pipeline to it?

    🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

  35. ourkid1781

The DeVos family made most of their fortune grifting millions with a pyramid scheme. They made the rest farming war criminals.

  36. KungFuKennyEliteClub

Come on Shaq, lets see what you gotta say!

  37. Objective-Lawyer3391

So if I’m a black NBA player on the Magic I’m thinking the owner supports the cancellation of Black history in America. Fck that.
