[Windhorst] As I look across the league and have conversations with executives and agents, I can’t identify another team that is seriously making an offer for Damian Lillard at this point. My belief is that the Heat can’t either.

It’s because him and his agent threw a public temper tantrum.

Give it time, the offers will come.

I feel like sometimes Dame is the “putting a stick in his own bike spokes” meme personified

There isn’t a team that could trade for him and still be a contender after making that trade except for maybe the sixers, depending on what they’re able to get for james harden.

Not surprising at all. He only fits a handful of teams regardless given his age, contract, and position. Then the only other teams he really would make sense for are like Utah, Bklyn, and NO, none of whom have timeline pressure to win in the next two years. You couple that with Goodwin’s posturing and it’s a recipe for tumbleweeds.

Still expect him to end up in Miami, but would not be surprised at all to see that drag out till the deadline. If Miami went all in with 4 picks (changing protections with OKC and getting 1 unprotected for Herro), plus both young players and swaps, that would probably do it. Just don’t see Pat being willing to sell the entire farm until he absolutely has to and that means serious patience.

My only concern with this is if dame comes around… then what!?!?!? Could be teams trying to poach scoot from us..

dame choose the worst timing ever coupled with an even terrible strategy. had this been a year or two ago it would have been very different.

Even before all this drama I think the list of teams that could have a package we’d be interested in and would be interested in taking him on was quite small. Probably five teams at the most.

Then the drama started and I think some teams prolly immediately pumped the brakes. The longer this goes on the more likely another GM could think “hmmmmmm.”

It makes sense. But also there have been so many trades out of nowhere that don’t make perfect sense. Just chill, let the season start and see where teams are. A new GM/owner looking to make a splash, a GM on the hot seat making one last attempt to save his job, an owner just deciding he is hell bent on getting Dame for some reason (that might not make any sense) and tells the GM to get it done. This shit happens all the time. In my opinion just be patient, we got no rush, if Miami goes from a shit offer, to a slightly shittier offer, whatever, still a shitty offer. But it’s worth the upside to just chill and take the chance someone else makes an offer that might not make “complete sense”. Just my opinion

I get confused by reports like this because I specifically remember on draft night Brian Windhorst saying that teams are prepared to make offers and call portland IF they make the pick. Not sure what changed. Must be the one team trade request thing. They went hard on that

Oh well, I guess he’ll just have to play for the contract he already signed. Like, sorry Windy and ESPN, but the Trail Blazers don’t owe it to ESPN to just send him to Miami so you have more stories during the season. Also funny how he paints the Heat as if they’re “unable” to do the trade, no, they just just choose not to send the required assets.
