Jeanie Buss Says LeBron James Will Have Lakers Jersey Retired. Could a Statue Follow?

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss made it clear in a recent interview that LeBron James will have his number retired by the Lakers once his playing days are over. Whether he’ll have to wait to formally enter the Hall of Fame, which is itself a requirement for jersey retirement with this franchise, we’ll wait and see. (I think we can all agree it would be safe for the Lakers to raise his number before the HOF actually performs the ceremony – he seems like a pretty safe bet for admission…)

So GOAT candidate who won a title with the team, helped lead them through a very dark time after Kobe Bryant’s death, went to a Western Conference Finals, became the NBA’s leading scorer, etc. — good enough for jersey retirement, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Where would LeBron rank in terms of Lakers legacy, relative to the other greats that have also had their jersey’s retired? Is he more Wilt or Magic? Which end of the spectrum are we talking about, here?

How much does that matter? What might it take for LeBron to become statue worthy, if he’s not already? (And we assume most Lakers fans would say he is not at that point yet.)

Meanwhile, Monday’s show was about as thorough a scouting report as you can get on any one player. Three interviews, spanning each of the three teams Cam Reddish played for before signing with the Lakers this summer. What were the highlights of each stop? What were the lowlights. We react to a show that if you missed, you need to go back and watch.

HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky

SEGMENT 1: LeBron will have his jersey retired. No real surprise there.

SEGMENT 2: But what about a statue? Because with the Lakers, that’s a bigger “legacy” conversation than just a visit to the rafters?

SEGMENT 3: Reacting to Reddish. What are the takeaways from Monday’s show?

  1. Did Andy just say …" I believe Jerry West has a STATUE" . What a fking idiot. Take your job seriously Andy. Idiot…

  2. So you get a statue and retirement jersey celebration for winning 1 bubble ring?? smh our standard has fallen. Robert Horry should get a statue LeBron is not a real Laker. This is all for clout and for all the LeBron Stans they not real Lakers fans. Yall disrespect kobe because he is dead if he was alive this wouldn't be a thing.

  3. Hello fellas – great content as usual. I normally watch on my TV but had to jump on my laptop to comment on the statue. No need to have another episode. When and if he gets one, it should be Cleveland ONLY.

  4. Lebron is the top 2 best player of all time. He helped lead the lakers to a championship and broke Kareem's record while wearing a Lakers jersey. He deserves to have his jersey retired in LA, Miami, and Cleveland.

  5. Can you guys have a small section talking about who are your personal top 3 favourite Lakers of all time?

  6. That Reddish deep dive was done incredibly well! Are they going to make a Pau statue? He's going going to be inducted next month. Wilt statue?

  7. I agree with the notion of retiring bron’s 23 jersey since 6 is retired league-wide. Statue is definitely a no as his legacy in LA is no where near the accomplishments of the others who have a statue.

  8. Love the show fellas, but LeBron is NOT, should not even be considered and will NEVER be an all time Lakers' great!!! Not even close. Hell, I would consider Big Shot Bob or Michael Cooper or even dare I say, "Superman" Rambis….smdh……#LegendsRollinOverInTheirGraves

  9. Bron needs to provide another Finals appearance or ring to truly be regarded as a great Laker and jersey retirement worthy. He’s been underwhelming in comparison to his other stops.

  10. If he retired today he doesn't get a statue. Another championship? Then I say yes. Especially if that championship puts us ahead of the Celtics! But without another banner the retired jersey will be it.

  11. Great show as always but I disagree that Lebron was a bad leader his first year. He was doing too much of the heavy lifting just to keep the Lakers afloat and knew that wasn’t sustainable. So he demanded for the Lakers to get a star player like AD. Trades are part of bball and Bron looked distant amongst the players on the court cos he was INJURED for half the szn. But I still saw him do small celebrations for players like Caruso on the sidelines

  12. Kobe statue options….
    1) on top top the scorers table holding up 5
    2) Kobe tearing his jersey to the side after the game winner in 06 so you can get the lakers and Olympics as that was his heart… basketball
    3) holding up the number one after scoring 81 and you angle the statue walking away from people signaling we lost him

  13. I for one appreciate u two n all the hard work and real optics not fake news or click bare I can’t stand LIERS anyways I support you! Go lakers 💙🍻🔥💪😎

  14. I personally feel like a statue is a little much and jersey retirement is kinda arguable imo! Yes LBJ has done well when healthy and did help bring us a title and helped lead us to the WCF last year but I don’t feel that 2 really successful years since he has been in LA is a good enough reason for a statue or possibly even his jersey being retired…now let’s say lakers win the title again this year than yes I will agree with the jersey retirement talk

  15. My question is if he wasn’t a laker when he became the all time leading scorer would there even be a statue talk? I don’t feel as though there would be and while this is not a shot at Jennie it’s almost as if she is considering all this because he became the all time leading scorer as a laker cause I don’t think this would be a discussion if he became the leading scorer somewhere else before he came here

  16. HANGING HIS JERSEY I AGREE, BUT NOT THE STATUE! HE DESERVE A STATUE ONLY IN CLEVELAND OR MAYBE MIAMI..

  17. 163 wins 115 loses since joint the lakers 1championship miss the playoffs 2 times, 1st round exit and WCF appearance not sure why y’all are retiring anything

  18. Where would the Lakers be right now if Bron never went to the Lakers or better yet? What if he went to the Clippers instead.. 🤔
