The Charlotte hornets are one of the newer franchises in the NBA, but that doesn’t change the fact that their roots in basketball go deep, having two of the most ionic college basketball programs and even having an aba team. Through losing their team, getting it back under a different name, then finally getting their old name back the franchise has been a bit of a mess for lack of a better word. But though bad management by the greatest basketball player ever aside. The franchise has had some iconic players give a glimpse of what could’ve been for charlotte. Larry Johnson was the first star the charlotte hornets ever had. As the number 1 pick in the 1991 NBA draft, Larry Johnson would give the city the first taste of stardom and help take them from basement dwellers to playoff contenders. He would be joined by another iconic star in Alonzo Mourning who was the second overall pick in the 1992 draft. The duo would prove that basketball could thrive in the city of charlotte, and the effects of their early stardom still can be seen in charlotte today. For our third star we look to 2011, where the charlotte hornets had become the bobcats and would go on to have the worst season EVER in NBA history. The only bright spot on that year being Kemba Walker, the 9th overall pick and UCONN Legend that lead the wolves to a national championship that same year. He was a part of the renaissance of the Bobcats and would help bring them from the depths of literally being the worst team ever, to an actual playoff team. Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and Kemba Walker three charlotte hornets legends who helped bring their teams from rags to riches, but only one can be the franchise goat. So, let’s find out who is the Greatest Player in Charlotte Hornets History.
