2 questions. Why was game played at New Orleans? Did Bird give up 61 points on the other end of court??

Dominique Wilkins said the bench players were fined by the coach, perhaps at his urging.

This was 9 days after Kevin McHale had set a franchise record with 56 points, Bird said he was inspired by that to go for 60.

Bird scored 32 points in 14 minutes in the 2nd quarter.

    22/36 shooting, 1/4 3pt, 15/16 ft, 7 reb, 3 ast, 3 to

  3. Some of these old footages have better quality than 2005-2015 era.

Couldn’t stand Bird because I lived in Boston in the 80s and he was absolutely worshipped by a lot of shitty area people, which clouded my perception of him.

Regardless, he had the best bag in the business in the 80s. Creative, strong. Looked slow, but supremely quick and decisive. He’d lull you to sleep when you were being too aggressive, explode by you when you were sleeping on him. Knew when to take over or fall back to allow the other two (Parish and McHale) to operate. Magnificent player.

This was happening every night. That’s why the hawks where acting like that. they knew Bird was a beast.

Bird would be so nasty in today’s era. With spacing and the way the game is played now he would have the ball in his hands so much in 1 on 1 situations. Add in the volume 3’s he would be allowed to shoot, he would be incredible.

  6. Simmons was right about this. He talks in his book of basketball about the Hawks bench actively reacting to Bird’s buckets. I never bothered to look it up and figured he was exaggerating as usual. Nope he wasn’t lying.

Larry is so cool. He’d be a fucking menace in todays game

  8. This is incredible. Those hawks boys were going thru it! Hahaha

Love how Bench reactions are largely unchanged

Except now we have multiple angles to catch the bench lacking

I’m surprised we didn’t get a Bird Is The Word from Sterling here. Isn’t that right Suzyn?

  11. As much as I hate the Celtics, this is actually like 80 points due to inflation.

Larry Bird is one of the biggest “what-ifs” in NBA history for me not because of his injury that cut his prime short but because if he had been born like 10/15 years later we would have some absolutely golden mic’d up moments from him

Is it safe to say Larry has the best white boy bag
