[Pompey] The problem that Daryl Morey faces is before you had Doc Rivers, who you could blame, you could blame “The Process,” you could blame other people. Right now, all eyes are on Morey … if they don’t get out of the second round, he’s going to take the blame … He could be the guy that goes.

> Scotto: Daryl Morey has shown through his executive tenure with the Sixers and Rockets that he’s always been able to get star players. If Harden is traded, Morey could go all in on cap space for next summer and try to pair another star with Embiid and Maxey as the core going forward. As Morey looks to tinker with Philadelphia’s roster, he’s not an executive who’s gone through a rebuild, so I wonder how long he could stay with the Sixers depending on what happens with the Harden trade and potentially a transformative summer for the team in 2024.

> Pompey: The rhetoric that’s coming out now is if they don’t get it done this year, they’ll have a lot of cap space next year. It sounds like that gives you an extra year to see if you can get things done. The problem that Morey faces is before you had Doc Rivers, who you could blame, you could blame “The Process,” you could blame other people. Right now, all eyes are on Morey. He came here to bring James Harden. He’s also one of the most recognizable front-office executives in pro sports. The fact that he took over a Sixers team, and if they don’t get out of the second round, he’s going to take the blame and the brunt of it. He could be the guy that goes.

> It’s one of those things where they blamed it on the coaching. People felt like the Sixers were a couple of adjustments away from getting out of the second round. Of course, everyone is going to look at the Harden situation. Morey is making a lot of money, and when he came in here, the Sixers were supposed to ascend. When Brett Brown was the coach, it was the second round. When Elton Brand was leading the front office, it was the second round. Now, you’ve got Morey and three max players or close to it in Harden, Embiid, and Tobias Harris, and it’s been three seasons in a row that they ended their season in the second round. I think Morey could be in trouble if they don’t get out of the second round.

number twenty-one deserves just as much blame

  2. xerxesthagreat

daryl morey has been scamming a living off being Harden’s side piece for years. Then he pissed off his sneaky link. shit so sad.

  3. SquimJim

They probably would have been just fine throughout “The Process” if the league left them alone.

Ever since they intervened it’s kind of been one fuck up after another.

At least the Harden move made sense, but it didn’t get them any further.

  4. Good_NewsEveryone

This is a really stupid way to think about things to be honest

  5. HoopsHistoryGuy

Can’t trade a player for an extra knee. The problem is Embiid is hurt every playoffs and can’t exert 100% effort

  6. Guy made his entire career off signing Harden from OKC and somehow convinced everyone that he’s a genius GM despite making more idiotic moves than good ones.

  7. Dededelete49

I still don’t know what he’s done for the Sixers that deserves this kind of criticism. Like, what move did he make, or not make, that warrants running him out?

  8. TheResolute44

Was Morey the guy that gave Tobias the max or let Butler leave for Josh Richardson? The problems that Sixers roster is facing right right now are the results of the previous GM and not Morey.

  9. When the GM fires the coach, the GM is often the next to go — unless he works for the Bulls.

  10. redden34

He got off Ben Simmons contract. He has a job for as long as he wants for that

  11. JohnnySalmonz

We are seeing in real time that it’s possible for GMs to become washed up just like players. Morey and Masai are cooked.

  12. His biggest mistake will always be hiring Glen Rivers. The dude already proved he was washed when he was with us.

  13. thy_armageddon

It’s so funny how still so many bozos go to bat for Morey and the only great things they can ever bring up he’s done involve the ability to acquire and maintain a relationship with James Harden.

  14. throwawayjoeyboots

Pompey is legitimately the worst writer in Philly. Comically stupid. So whatever point he’s trying to make, you’re better off taking the opposite view.

  15. EntertainmentWarm774

Sixers really had a golden opportunity to make the finals this year and completely fumbled the bag lmao.

  16. ActImmediate5235

Doc Rivers is a second cousin of football legend Phillip Rivers.

  17. ChoiceStar1

Morey has done terrible with Philly’s treasure trove – ridiculous really

  18. _Jetto_

Morey is fine gm not sure why you all hate him I hate him cuz he backed off from harden deal which is absolutely DOGshit if true butbisbtrack record is a tier or s tier

  19. SportsBettingRef

at lot of professionals in sports get more blame than Morey and cia. I believe that a they need a competitive Finals at least to survive.

Heat achieved much more with much less.

  20. Goku_is_a_deadbeat

There is one person who has been the only constant in all those meltdowns.

Recently whined his way to an MVP and then ghosted the team when it mattered the most.

  21. SandyMandy17

Maybe Embitch just isn’t good enough at basketball

  22. BradyReas

We have so few assets that firing Morey after another failed season, while perhaps justified, will not really change the trajectory of the team

  23. sixseven89

Nah you can definitely blame Flopbiid

  24. paltrysquanto27

Restart the process. Embiid for every single okc pick. Ditch a few other players to the jazz and call it a day.

  25. kyleb402

At what point of Embiid going to get any of the blame?

You could replace the word Morey with Embiid every time and it would still be a valid question.

  26. Father-John-Moist

Philly does LOVE to have someone to blame.

I think Philly likes being mad at their own franchise more than they would enjoy a winning franchise. The people of Philly are fueled by hate and the sports culture is meant to break players instead of build winners.

  27. Le8ronJames

The Process™️ is over and it’s been an horrible failure. Now who’s fault is it? Many are to blame. But 6ers are better trading Embiid while he still has value/not old and start fresh with a new core.

  28. gentleriser

I still trust the process. Bring back Hinkie.

  29. Doobie_Howitzer

Daryl didn’t get here until after Doc, he’s literally never blamed The Process or Big Collar or anyone prior to Dick Rivers because he didn’t have the opportunity.

Keith has transcended his normal idiocy, he’s now resorting to just straight up lying for attention like a high school girl

  30. gnoob920

I feel like this team will never build up any momentum by making drastic and dramatic changes every year.

  31. DaReal_Denny_Boy

Tbh I think Embiid needs to get more blame for just being an All Star every year in the playoffs and not a superstar that can lead a team to a championship.

  32. VegaGT-VZ

This is a dumb take because it assumes FO job security is contingent on performance. IMO the vast majority of FO job security is in the FO’s relationship with the owner, as well as the financial return the whole operation is generating. I dont know how 76ers owners are but they dont seem too bothered about the team’s post season results. If so why sign James Harden?

  33. DrewBreesAteMyFamily

Honestly I feel like there wasn’t much for morey to work with beyond having Embiid, which is obviously a lot in itself, but nothing enough by itself. He flipped josh Richardson for Seth curry, a lowkey great trade. He turned Ben Simmons albatross of a contract into James harden, which is a massive win. He didn’t really have much assets to work with outside of that, and being anchored down with Tobias Harris massive contract doesn’t help either. He’s built a solid team around embiid and brought in a second star, it’s just that neither embiid or harden have consistently shown up in the playoffs. They’ve underperformed radically in fact.

  34. PsychoWarper

The 76ers problems definitely started before Morey showed up, he wasn’t the one that didn’t give Jimmy the contract iirc.

Also Embiid has to also take some of the blame, even ignoring his insanely bad luck with injuries at the worst times he also just sees his play drop off a cliff in the Playoffs. At this point hes the one through line for the 76ers issues.

  35. A_Texas_Hobo

I mean, how is it his fault that Embiid didn’t show up consistently in the playoffs?

  36. RGPISGOOD

haha no. fans rarely blame the GM. the players will get the blame
