Why The Washington Wizards Did The Right Thing This Offseason.

In today’s video we go over the Washington wizards eventful 2023 offseason and why I believe they are now moving in the right direction starting a full on rebuild.

  1. Its easy to pick on the front office of the Wizards for giving Beal a no trade clause but they have made some decent steps in the right direction. Kuzma's contract for instance is really good , getting cheaper every year so you can expect to get some nice draft compensation for him when he is traded (and I would be shocked if he wouldnt). Pool is a question mark but lets see if he could move past Draymonds right hand. They did give their first round pick away but it has some nice proctections on it so the only "danger" of having to actually convey it is like 2026 (top 8) but after that it turns into 2 seconds and they have plenty of those. Tyus Jones is someone who can easily have a "breakout" season and if he does , since they should have his Bird rights , they can probably resign him – and trade him for even more assets. The only real issue is that as you have highlighted as well , they have a rather bad history in terms of selecting talent in recent years so lets just see what happens in the next draft.
I have been watching your videos for a while and I think you have a chance to become a larger NBA channel. Your takes are rational , no clikbait , and you try to avoid triggering fanbases as some other edgelords do so please do continue with your work , its a grind we all know that but I think you can make it.

  2. The Wizards did not send the 2024 Warriors pick. That came from Memphis. Washington traded away Porzingis only, a who wanted out as soon as Beal left and he saw the team was rebuilding. He said it, his agent said it. He did a favor to the Wiz by opting in for the Celtics trade instead of hitting the market to see what was available. Otherwise the Wizards would have lost him for nothing. So in exchange for 'nothing' the Wizards got Tyus Jones, 2 playable vets (Gallinari, Muscala) and the 35th pick (which was traded to the bulls for 2 future picks since the roster is full). Seems like a good trade to me.

  3. Tyus Jones holds the record on assist-to-turnover ratio (6.98 to 1 in 2022) and has led the league in this category the past 5 years. More of a set-up man than Monte, averaged 8 assists a game when he started last year. Seems smart to me to add that player to a team where you have youth and players with questionable shot selection (Kuzma, Poole). Memphis' bench has had good young players. How much of their growth is because they were playing next to a guy who put them in position to succeed?
