I still laugh at this trade because Minnesota had a very well structured team with D-Lo, Ant and KAT as their big 3 and defensive pieces like Pat Bev and Vanderbilt
It's not as bad as it may seem if you get your info strictly from NBA Twitter. Yes, jokes about Tim Connelly basically giving the Jazz a contending franchise as a birthday gift TWICE within the same decade write themselves and they're pretty funny. This team wouldn't have kept (let alone build upon) the momentum from semi-successful previous season and would've finished with less than 40 wins. The problems here lie strictly within T'Wolves front office and are as follows: 1)They didn't have a playmaker for about half of the season. D'Lo has been proven unreliable over and over again and Ant started the season with more TOPG than APG. Getting Conley sorted that problem out, despite being a temporary solution (he's 35) 2)Connelly gave KAT a $224m extension while planning a trade for another supermax center (a superior one, honestly) with all signs pointing that the pairing might not work out the way he imagined. 3)Now that they've realized that Ant-McDaniels-Gobert is actually a great base for a competent team, they can't trade KAT for extra pieces and/or some picks because his value is at the lowest it has been. This season is a make-or-break for them.
Even though I think the trade was bad Minnesota can probably savage it by trading KAT and having ANT and Golbert develop a two man game because ANT needs space to get to the basket and he can’t do that with two bigs clogging up the paint
So I think they should trade KAT because I think we all agree nobody really believes in him as a star player and maybe somebody can throw in assests for him.
It’s time for the Wolves to build around ANT and Golbert can be a nice piece to build around him in the upcoming years
I agree, if you give Rudy crap for playing in the FIBA Tournament, you have to give it to KAT and Ant too. The Wolves actually have a lot of players competing this year, and I think that will end up helping the team out greatly.
i’m so sick of talking about this trade. it was shit the minute it happened. we know. id trade kat while you still can. you can’t have those two in the same lineup
I think the Wolves might just do something drastic and trade KAT to get as many assets back as possible. They might even get a potential perimeter all star if they get lucky. This version of the team would bolster the defence with Gobert and bank on Edwards to turn into a top 10 player.
I’m still extremely confident in this team as a Wolves fan. I really think we can be a top 10 offenses and defense man. Jaden McDaniels is the sole reason why I was totally fine giving up so many firsts because I firmly believe he’s worth 3-4 firsts by himself. Was it an overpay, yes, but I’m really not mad at the trade at all.
The Jazz were irresponsible to give Gobert that supermax. The Wolves were absolutely stupid to trade all of those assets for such an irresponsible contract…
If the Wolves do really good this season then the trade was a good thing. All the players traded sucked last year. Draft picks are overrated when you already have your future on the team.
It's still crazy to me that you traded so much for a guy to be your 3rd best player who ended up being your 5th best player. And to remedy your best possible opinion is to trade your 2nd best player. Smh
Two bigs don’t work unless one of em can pass. Other than that, your 4’s need to be crazy athletic, or essentially be big 3’s. These two are too big and slow and they’ll get run n gunned every time.
After this trade happened every team in the league thought they could get away with entire team's franchises for their tier 2 All-Stars. Had front offices like "You want Bradley Beal? Give us your entire team and future." No team was playing fair in trades the entire 2022-2023 seasons. I don't like the KD trade to the Suns but at least that reset the trade market value.
This guy gets followed just because has this deep voice and can talk good game. And he is still making old mistake of just looking Rudy's overall reg season stats, which were always great. The problem comes when playoffs start and small ball line ups get thrown at him, and he can't punish smaller players on offense. The minute the dude bounces the ball on offense, it's over. But this dude is doing the same mistake everyone was making with Rudy – looking at the regular season stats. This was one of the worst trades in NBA if not in history then at least in last decade, considering how much was given for Rudy (Vanderbilt, picks etc).
Rudy Gobert is the ultimate test whether you’re a casual freak or a enjoyer of basketball. If you think Vanderbilt and a bunch of non rotation players and 3 meaningless picks are worth more than Gobert, your opinion is worthless and to quote Gobert, “GMs understand my value.”
Btw Funky, you’re a fraud for deleting my comments. Most boring NBA content creator ever. Says the most safe possible thing including when its disparaging and talking down to players, sad.

Reminds me of when Detroit let Ben Wallace walk to Chicago because he was already starting to decline.

This trade was widly panned at the time as it should have been.
no one ever talks about the DMitch trade but it’s always about Rudy. Actually so biased

Bruh with the amount they gave up they could've had damn near any player in the NBA

It was an absolutely terrible trade for minesoata.
The Jazz should be in prison for Felony Robbery of 2 franchises.
Yo funky, are you going to cover the world cup? I'd love to see that tbh
Possibly the worst trade of all time in terms of value and maybe outcome in the near future.

Are you gonna cover the World Cup later this month Funky?

Unless KAT plays like 2011 Dirk then this team aint going anywhere

Rudy is the most overrated player of all time he was never even good.
Yeahhhh to be honest, I don't think Timberwolves are getting 50 wins next season chief….
This is why the Timberwolves were forever be perennially crap as a franchise.
once they trade KAT it will be better
The day the trade happened, I said that in 3 years Walker Kessler will be better than Gobert ever was. So far that prediction is looking great.
Rudy just needs to get 8-10 more points and don't. Doesn't need a 3 ball, just be more aggressive and get a sky hook you're 7ft.
Worst trade in NBA history

sooo we aint gon talk abt how macdeniels grew to 6"11???

As a wolves fan, I really need the kings to do bad next season. I dont think I can handle being the only poverty franchise in the west

Seriously why does anyone trade with Danny ainge?
