I personally have Tim Duncan higher because his value very, VERY rarely changed night to night. Kobe could shoot you to a win singlehandedly, but could also shoot you out of a game in a matter of minutes, whereas Tim was insanely reliable even if his highs weren’t as high. Also, I don’t think there’s any argument for Kobe being top 3, like none whatsoever, and anyone claiming he is is doing so out of nothing but homerism. He’s amazing, but you guys putting him in conversations he has no business being in is the reason he’s hated.

I’m one the biggest kobe fans but let’s be objective for a second here.

Wtf is this shit. Delete this. If you go to r/nba kobe barely top 15. Don’t bring this stupid stuff here. This is a lakers sub. This belongs on r/nba. We don’t crap on our legends

Do yall seek reasons to be upset?

Duncan is 5 all time for me behind magic kareem bron and mj. Kobe is 8 above shaq and steph
Idiotecka
wtf of a comparison anyway. a pf/c and a sg. both all time greats. 1, 5, 6 or whatever, it doesn’t matter.
BreakCreepy4673
Both are GOAT’s for different reasons. Perhaps not in the top 5 bracket, but both are in that top 10 space.
jobeeeeeeem
I just don’t rank them. I was a Jordan fan before Kobe. Born in 88 and really saw Kobe evolved from a teenager to what he was before he retired. Living outside the US made it difficult too to watch all the games.

The Kobe Reddit erasure is significant. Just the other day some guys were saying that Kobe was never the best player in the league at any moment.
Tim Duncan’s legacy is team/organizational success. I respect him and he’s awesome.
When they were both playing at the same time, Kobe was the man in the league. Kobe was the person being compared to Jordan and got respectably close.
Edit: to elaborate at the time they both played in the league MJ was the unquestioned Goat. I never heard anyone put Tim Duncan in that conversation. There was a meaningful period of time where PLAYERS acknowledged Kobe as the best individual player in the league. Reddit can never erase it from my memory because I was there watching.

I never saw this meme as a slight to kobe. It was more saying that TD doesnt get the respect he deserves as a player.
StoneColdAM
Hardcore basketball fans love Tim Duncan and constantly put him above Kobe. I’d say Kobe has the edge because of star power but both are similarly great players.

Big men, specifically Centers and PFs are historically disrespected when these lists are compiled. Top 75 they left Howard off the list, for Harden? Kareem dominated 2 decades, and for years the only person ever to defend or slow down Shaq was himself.
astickyworm1
Get this shit outta here. Is bill Russell twice the player MJ was cause he got twice the rings? Kobe on his own level
mambabite24
I hate this comparison. A lot of it is revisionist history. Duncan was a top player in the 2000s but even Shaq was viewed as much better, which seems to be the unpopular opinion now days.
_Nolofinwe_
I mean, any objective fan can state that Kobe is not in the goat debate
Top 10? That’s a better discussion
I think this is a fun argument because Kobe is by far the more memorable player from a wow perspective, but Duncan was the most fundamentally sound, excellent power forward of all time
I’d give the slight edge to Timmy, but it’s like who is arguing is the taller dwarf
_uper_nknown
These types of discussions where one guy is down played are ridiculous. Kobe Bryant is a top ten player ever because he beat Tim Duncan. Duncan is also a top ten player ever because he beat Kobe. In other words, both players are generational talents and we’re lucky we got to witness them compete.
Mysterious-Ad4966
Is that the meme?
Normally it’s the other way around.
People say Tim > Kobe and Kobe is top 10 at best while Tim is close to top 5.
JaxonStormBorn
I rarely see people say this

What’s their playoff head to head matchup record? Who beat who the last time they played? Who had the best peak? It’s really not even fair because TD lost his athleticism rather quickly from injuries, Kobe lost his post prime. 81 points. Gold Medal. 3 peat and repeat. Duncan never even made it to the finals two year in a row. Who was pulling up 30+ feet from the basket before it was cool? Black Mamba
LackingOriginality07
People claiming both these guys are for sure top 10…you know you can only have 10 players on that list, right?
Classic_Run_4836
The 2003 ring does extremely heavy lifting in Tim Duncan’s legacy. It’s the only place where Tim goes so far ahead of Kobe that it’s incomparable.
vkewalra
The GOAT discussion is so stupid. It’s similar to the prom queen type mvp Vite. It’s partially popularity, personality, etc. Nobody brings up Kareem in the GOAT conversation either and he has a better claim than anybody

Kobe is 18-12 against Tim Duncan in the playoffs

Where’s Tim’s Olympic Gold Medals?
SPat24
Other than the Excel experts and nerds of r/nba who constantly prop up Duncan and shit on Kobe because some random stats, nobody in the real world thinks Kobe was any less than Duncan. If anything, Kobe’s longevity was similar and his peak was higher.

Lmao bad analogy. Who would expect Bahamas to have a contending team?
