He was the first pro baller I ever saw off the court. His son was the same age as me, and we played in the same 6th grade basketball league in the Akron area ~1993. I couldn’t believe how huge he was! On TV, Hot Rod’s athleticism was obvious. But the added perspetive of knowing it was that GIANT flying around the court like that made it all the more impressive

He used to absolutely feast on other team’s second team players. Wilkins would start a no-offense, defense-first guy, and sub in Hot Rod when the first substitutions were made.
