So how good a GM is Rob Pelinka?
There are very few questions you could ask of Lakers fans, and Lakers media, over the last few years and receive a wider variety of answers, depending on the date. The swings here are massive. On the one hand, he’s won a title! On the other, he completely destroyed a season-and-a-half with the Russell Westbrook trade, and made a bunch of other technical errors that have cost the Lakers over the last few years.
But then again, the man completely rescued the team from the h-e-double hockey sticks in which he put it at the trade deadline, reforming the roster and forming a group that reached the Western Conference Finals. This summer, he did good work maintaining the roster and adding a little more balance. There was no big swing for a shiny object, no upheaval to try and add another star.
On the other hand… there really weren’t any stars to go get. Not without jumping through so many hoops and performing so many surgeries on the roster that the result simply wouldn’t have been viable. Nobody, save perhaps Kyrie Irving, thought this was a good idea, and therefore it wasn’t seriously entertained.
So is Rob Pelinka a good GM?
That’s the question put to Harrison Faigen of SB Nation (and the head honcho at Silver Screen and Roll).
Plus, we talk about snacks and Anthony Davis, and where the Lakers fit in with other teams in the Western Conference. Behind the Nuggets, sure, but then what?

NOT FOR ME (day 1) HAS "ALWAYS" BEEN TOP 3 GM IN THE LEAGUE….
(always said let him do his job without interference…..hint hint kurt/linda rambis)
For me the verdict is still out on Pelinka
I dont know to me looks like the exact revert Logic from Harrison: if Pel has still credit amongst the management and Jeanie it's because Jeanie knows the responsibilities are more on others: LeBron and his entourage, for sure, and Jeanie herself and her clan..
Mediocre ? This guy is as stupid as he looks
I wouldn’t say so, even tho his moves have been great and I have no doubt he’s grown as a GM but I cannot forget about tearing down a championship roster for Westbrook
For all comparisons, I like Rob better than Magic. I kept a composite mistakes from letting Julius Randle and Thomas Bryant walking for nothing all the way through Zubac traded for Muscala to the Clippers.
Rob has had some head scratchers of rookie contracts to agreeing to the Russ trade. We’ve had some crazy roster flops twice with the “over the hill” and the 8 guards.
But he was Davy to hold out from listening to news/fans by holding out trading both picks to get of Russ to the immaculate trade deadline miracle.
Rob is getting help. At the same time he pawned all his silver so he didn’t have any money left to buy any gold. So yeh, he idiotically made the good decision of not buying high.
He did good. He needs to Sign christian wood though. Uhm. He only lacks bringing in star power players, but in terms of balancing the team and still compete, it is there. Stars doesnt only mean Big salary players. Im not saying he did bad, but he can add more star power.
What are you doing still talking when the elote man is outside? Go get yourself some corn.
Impressive since last year's trade, but I think he made a misstep on JHS
I Hope I'm proven wrong on this though
Maybe you guys trying to get clicks for your podcast you got to remember the worst GM the Lakers had was Mitch Kupchak. Rob is doing a good job let it go.
Sometime you let talking head talk, they will reveal who they are
Smh!! I think I'll come back when your brother is back. You got great topics just the wrong guests. This is the 3rd day I just stopped listening 💜💛
The lakers have done fine rob pullinka needs to make to the trade with Portland first, Austin Reeves and Russell would go to Portland and do very well, it would give Austin Reeves a chance to develop. He can only come off the bench for though they gracefully would limit his talent.
It would be good for the lakers. In case Lebron or Davis got hurt, didn't load and take Uber. They wouldn't Miss A beat. This would give Russell and leave it.
We love Austin Reeves and we hate to lose him. But for Damian Lillard, you can get Austin ridge back somewhere down-the-line. In the meantime, you got Damian Lillard in his prime and Lebron James and Anthony. Davis, get hurt a lot with damien and willard
But if you kept Rock Austin reached out would be fine, but he would only be limited as a backup player in Portland he starts and can develop 3 years. Down the line, you couldn't take another look at him and compete for his services😊
Or you could trade dealer to Chicago Bulls for the rosion. Dial a new number one for derozan or the Portland trade department. Trade firit's really push signed away. Howard McGee And let's go get our ring
We learned Austin Reeves, that's why we're willing to trade him so that he can develop into the best player he could become we could get him back later, but we have Damian Lillard and you could end up with both of you. So in the meantime, lakers Damian Lillard is a smart move. And there will one to accept Russell Reeves and a number 1. It already should be done. Polinka, we believe that you know. So we'll look to see what you do. When you love you and just love the job you're doing. Genius hotter than blair, so we're a good good loved
We love oxygen ridge is a bright young man but I don't think hes upcoming off of the bench player, which will allow him to develop into his full value. If you trade him to Portland the guy can develop, and then you can take another look at him. After he has 4 years under his belt and resign him. And still have a lot of pretty freaking awesome. If you keep Reeves, then the Angelo a number one for the Roger perfect or living perfect.
Only the OG viewers know about the Anthony Irwin and Harrison Faigen days on Locked on Lakers.
Rob is a good GM. 2 WCFs, 1 title, and we are set up good for the future. How many teams have done better in the last 4 yrs? Not very many
Is that the Elote man’s horn in the background? 😂
If rob doesnt do the russ trade fans would have roasted him and said hes wasting lebrons last years… it was a lose – lose that he turned around. Mamba Mentality🎉
Great special guest🎉🎉
Rob did a great job this last season and summer.
ANYONE WHO THINKS THE RUSS YEAR WAS "ROBS FAULT" ARE TOTAL IDIOTS
(bron + ad made that move____i guess when you lose your hair you also lose your intelligence)
Can I ask why the forgone conclusion is that bron is gone next season? Brian said we need to wait until next off-season post lebron. I don't think anyone knows what's going on with Bronny, also Bron might just opt into his player option, it's a lot of money to turn down. I don't like this narrative that lebron is just gone after this season.
Rob pelinka still kinda new in the GM game an getting better he only been one 6 years an had to do it for a big market like the Lakers
I don't agree with Faigen at all when he talks about 3 superstars failure in LA. While I like the depth we have now I don't think at the stage of his career Westbrook came he was a Star anymore and had one of the worst contracts in the entire league. The trade was bad because the elusive 3rd star was making too much $$$, wasn't a star anymore and was clearly a bad fit from the start.
Not to me. He broke that championship team up.
Brian and Optimism??? Bwhahahahha 😂😂😂 Never been in the same room together.
