> Since 140 percent of Siakam’s salary next year — the new limit for an extension for a designated veteran — would be well above the 30 percent of the 2024-25 salary cap that is Siakam’s maximum salary, Siakam’s starting number is obvious. If next year’s salary cap grows by 10 percent over this year’s number — the maximum it can jump under the terms of the new CBA — the cap for 2024-25 would be set at about $149.62 million. Although an extension for Siakam would likely be worded to indicate he would be eligible for whatever 30 percent of the cap ended up being, the approximate number would be $44.89 million based on the highest possible cap jump. Add in 8 percent year-over-year raises, which the Raptors can offer him, the total would be approximately $202.28 million over four years, or $240.17 million over five if you want to fold in this coming season. If there is room to negotiate, it wouldn’t be much. Siakam has accomplished enough in the NBA that he can ask for all of that. Lesser players have received similar deals.
> The Raptors could offer Siakam a five-year supermax contract in free agency next summer if Siakam were to make All-NBA this coming season, which would start around $52.37 million and total about $307.23 million.
> Players who made right around that percentage of the cap this past season: Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker, Kristaps Porziņģis, Jrue Holiday, Ben Simmons and, yes, Siakam. Those players accounted for the 19th to 25th biggest individual cap hits this past season.
