Are the Thunder competitors with Embiid?

Embiid at the five next to Chet at four with J-Dub Shai and Giddey seems pretty epic.

Trading for Embiid would be a mistake

Injury prone, known for underperforming, would probably cost a lot, etc. I’ll pass

Woa, I’ve never seen this take before (/s).

No. I cannot fathom us being interested in picking him up. Even though I love his mountain dew commercial. And no, we don’t become competitors with him – based on his playoff performances.

Anyone is a competitor with Embiid. Not for us though.

  5. Even better, might as well grab Harden back with Embiid since they did so good together last season. (/s)

For a year or two we can pretend we are until it all falls apart.

The man just won the damn MVP. Yes, we WOULD be competitors. You all are acting foolish. YES, we would need to rest him accordingly, but in today’s NBA that’s not anything special.

Now, similar to James Harden, would Joel be as effective in the playoffs as the regular season? Historically, no, but we also have an ice-cold all NBA player on our roster: I’m sure SGA would be ready to rally the squad and help cover for any inefficiencies.

This team with Joel would be something major and I will not…WILL NOT…play into the game of “no, I don’t wanna change the team just to get him….” as that’s foolish shit. From spacing to defensive prowl, he is what you want in such a player. Chet and Joel would be something to shed a tear over on a nightly basis.

I’d give up 5 1st without blinking. I think Gobert got 4? Joel shits over Rudy as a complete player, respectfully.

If not a player like the reigning MVP, what the hell are we hoarding these 1sts for??? This isn’t football: we can’t just keep drafting 1st round picks because we have a 52 man roster. We have a full roster right now of players with oodles of potential to the point where project players from the 2nd round may get booted out unfortunately. Our cups are overflowing. Something gotta give.

I’m all aboard the Presti train if he feels it’s time to “condense”, and if it was for something like Embiid, I’d be SUPER hyped.

Now, of course, this is as a Thunder fan. If I were a Philly fan I’d be pissed as it means you’re losing your reigning MVP, which in turn would be losing your former MVP in Harden, and likely getting a squad of picks and maybe a few good prospects in return. Smells like a rebuild at that point…which they JUST went through in the past decade!

Main of the main: The Thunder are NOT above trading for a MVP. We’re not the Nuggets, or the Warriors, or a team on top. We need all the help we can get as right now we’re a 6/7 seed if everything goes right…where we’ll be praying the Clippers fell off the wagon, praying the Rockets were the 5th, and once again drafting a player who has to develop with other players vying for their spots vs getting VETS

We’d get better but it’d cost our long term development, he’s a diva

We are already competitors and if anyone says otherwise is a damn fool…

  10. Huge risk and we are straight up not having a good time for the next 5 or 6 years if we don’t win a chip this year or next.

  11. WooTerry

Embiid gonna set the rebuild back 5 years we good off that lol

  12. Qlix0804

Anyone is a competitor with Embiid. Hes a damn MVP

We are obviously better adding Embiid to the starting 5. I wonder what an Embiid trade would actually look like though. I doubt we keep the core 4. If I’m Philly, I have to at least get back one of Giddey/JDub/Chet.

  14. > Embiid at the five next to Chet at four with J-Dub Shai and Giddey seems pretty epic.

Sure but the problem is there’s no way we land him without giving up one of Giddey/Chet/JDub, and I’d much rather give that group a shot with Shai first.

Embiid hasn’t even made the conference finals. Adding him to the team doesn’t magically make us unbeatable. He has flaws and is injury prone. Plus he has a massive contract. He is MVPiid for a reason, but we just don’t need him. For the 538,943rd time, Chet WILL be our starting center. At least for this upcoming season. Chet has too much potential to make him just play second fiddle to Embiid.

  16. roastedhambone

How would they acquire embiid without giving up any of Chet, JDub, Giddey, or Shai?

Sorry, the group we have is exciting as hell.
