James Harden did the Nets a huge favor by asking for a trade last season

With the latest news that James Harden is possibly refusing to play for the Philadelphia 76ers this coming season, the Locked on Nets guys take a look back at what got him to Philly in the first place. They look at the timeline where Harden is and was concerned and dive into where Brooklyn stands with draft picks and compensation from that trade.

No doubt about it, James Harden did the Nets a favor, in the long run, asking out when he did. Of course, things went south for the Nets after with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but there’s increasing evidence that was always going to be the case with Harden specifically.

  1. Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Kevin Durant" are no longer our problem" Our Babbling over and over about them, is useless " We have to be concerned with who we have on this team currently, Speak on what we need to do to improve, and stop ✋️ whining over what other ex players, and teams are doing, and moves that they're making, that's irrelevant to the Brooklyn Nets" simply to keep a podcast afloat" This isn't, Locked on everyone else " it's supposed to be, " Locked on Nets" Right??

  2. We got Ben Simmons and are still dealing with that issue so no he didn’t do us a favor. Haha This take makes no sense. We have gotten pretty much nothin out of Ben Simmons and if Ben Simmons was the player he was expected to be there is a chance that even with Kyrie asking out KD stays but clearly he saw Ben Simmons as a non-factor.

Even if James had stayed the nets could have still moved on from James after this season OR traded him we have Ben Simmons for more years. Honestly I’m not sure why Harden is even a topic. His methods are bad but he had every reason to want out at the time. The organization had zero control over Kyrie Irving’s actions which in part cost them a title which was the reason Harden went there in the first place.

Honestly the Nets could use James Harden on this team right now. A shot creator who gets other guys easy shots? Kind what the Nets need. Take Harden back in a Heartbeat absent him being upset of course.

  3. Good morning everyone. Quite honestly this James Harden Philly saga has really summarized the messy imbalance between organizational accountability and player empowerment.

I understand James Harden wanted Philly because he believed he would land a final big extension contract and to form a championship squad with Joel Embid. But he went further and took a big pay cut to bring in his old friends like PJ Tucker. James Harden did that with the belief he would land a big final contract this season.

Unfortunately neither did he ever get an offer from his GM buddy but because of his playoff issues trade teams like Houston didn't want him and the Clippers don't have the huge assets to acquire Harden who opted into his contract and gave his trade rights to Philly and the GM who used to be his friend is now his enemy….

    Wow!

  4. Sean Marks may get a lot of crap for the Big Three failure which wasn't solely his fault given KD Kyrie and James were superstar elite talent but failed to control their egos and undid something that never really started.

Sean Marks pivoted greatly and refilled the first round draft picks up to 11 and has a young core of Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton.

Considering how bad Brooklyn could have looked Marks never gives up and does the best he can to put Brooklyn in a position to compete… And no Brooklyn player has called a Sean a liar so there you go….

  5. At the end of the day Brooklyn had a great extension contract to offer James Harden 💰 that Philly as it looks now never could have offered him.

  6. You know what would be a more interesting question? Why the Nets and Sean Marks are not in on a trade for PJ Washington? That’s a move or trade the Nets should be looking into as the Hornets don’t seem interested in extending him long term.

  7. Harden picked Morey over Kevin Durant. The guy deserves everything that has come his way in the playoffs

  8. Gm LON, I understand that many Nets fans might be easily persuaded, delusional, or overly optimistic. However, the ongoing situation in Philly does not benefit the Brooklyn Nets. Ultimately, we have four players who quit on their team (Harden, Kyrie, KD, Ben). There's no lesser of four evils here. Regarding the Philly picks, didn't we use one of those to acquire Royce O'Neal? Despite Philly getting Harden to agree to take less money, we still owe the unavailable Ben Simmons $78 million. While Harden played 79 games, Ben played only 42. Philly faced two second-round losses while the Nets had back-to-back sweeps, without Ben Simmons participating. Both Drummond and Seth left the Nets without any compensation. Frankly, Harden not extending his contract with the Nets was more problematic than if he had extended it. After all, we already had KD in the fold. If Harden signs, Kyrie loses his leverage with his mandate stance. KD and Harden's talents should be sufficient. So I don't see a cause for celebration. Philly can walk away from Harden with some type of return. Can the Nets say the same?

  9. I would say James harden did us a favor by asking for a trade right now and causing organizational chaos in one of our divisional opponents. I don't think the sixers are going to implode or trade embiid but something is gonna happen and it's not gonna be good for them.

  10. I think the biggest middle finger is James doing this in China. Don't forget, back in 2019, Daryl Morey openly supported Taiwan and the Chinese government did not look kindly on that

And Simmons has a HUGE opportunity to right the ship. Everything is served up to him on a silver platter

  11. When the trade was made for Ben Simmons for James Harden I'm not gonna lie I wasn't that excited about that trade. But now? Oh boy did we dodge another bullet!

  12. 19:10 Absolutely NOT!! These Stars were only about the person in the mirror. If Durant was serious about only playing with Irving, we should've let him go to the knicks. There is more than one way to win a championship

  13. The first pick the Nets got in the Philly trade went to Utah for Royce ONeale. The Whitehead pick was from Phx. So the return was Simmons, Royce, and the 27 first.

  14. Since we're doing hypotheticals here, the problem that I saw with James Harden which really started the domino effect of bad things happening, was I remember JH was already showing signs of malcontent at the beginning of his 2nd season with the Nets especially when he did not sign Sean M's offer, I had an hunch that Daryl M was already in JH's ear starting in the summer prior to this said season. Fast forward to today, they only have each other, JH got screwed by the very person who snaked him from the Nets. They deserve each other, and Karma is the Big "B" word. Meanwhile I still think we have hope and a better situation with Ben S. If Harden only was patient with the situation since it was a Pandemic, and Ky would have eventually came back to play, him, KD, and Kyrie would probably still be playing together with the Nets today, KD was locked up for 4 years, JH if he signed would have been locked up for 3 more years, had a great chance of winning a championship this past year, and he would have had the money he wanted, Kyrie would not throw a temper tantrum because he would be confident to bring a championship (this was the stipulation in the offer by Sean M) with both KD and JH with him and confidently sign that offer sheet by Marks.

  15. I don't think it was a mistake for Marks to offer the max to Harden. Maybe he's not at peak but the big 3 were definitely good enough to run it back in 2022 and 2023. That makes it worth it.
