A view from an IP lawyer over the Knicks/Raptors lawsuit

Am I crazy or is it kind of wild the Knicks have only had a Synergy license since 2022??

Has it not been heavily used for years??

tl;dr Raptors are losing picks, new head coach, new staff, and head management might need to resign.

I was hoping he would tell me, or if someone else can how this affects anyone other than Azotam. Say they did look at the files, it’s not like any of our guys signed the confidentiality agreement isn’t it more so kind of like

Azotam: “hey look at all these scouting and video reports I worked on when I was with the Knicks, we have some good scouting reports.”

Darko: “oh cool I’ll take a look at them see how we can use them in our strategy when we come against these teams, add it to my pile”

*Darko and staff go through the clips with their own footage from the Raptors org and use it to gameplan against other teams*

How does any of this implicate Darko as some sort of espionage mastermind?

So basically there are 2 sides to every story, we should wait to see how this plays out. I’m sure there are guilty parties here. I’m also not going to pretend James Dolan isn’t the type of guy to get cheesed we sniped his video guy and will drag our name through the mud for it. He’s the litigation type just like his president buddy. In fact, Hope Hicks, the current Knicks PR guy used to be his president buddy’s PR guy.

@washingtonpost According to the Complaint, did Azotam and the Raptors take care to do it right?

Well. In a word, no. Quite the opposite.

As alleged, he emailed himself (from his Knicks account to his gmail) all sorts of proprietary information and then passed it on to the Raptors. 👀

Am I crazy or is he just casually lumping together Azotam and THE ENTIRE RAPTORS ORGANIZATION?

Who did he pass the information on to? And in what form? Was it an email? Who was it sent to?

This is what I find so odd about the filing. It’s very specific about some things and exceptionally vague about others. And the things it is vague about are the things that have to do with the Raptors.

Seems like a case of ‘name everyone, especially those with deep pockets’ when the one who was clearly in the wrong (a low level employee) can’t pay up or settle for much.

Seemed like there were specific details about what Azotam did in the filing but nothing detailed about what Darko or others may have done other than have an email sent to them.

one of the pieces of context missed is that the synergy videos themselves have equal value whether they logged in from a knicks account or a raptors account. pure synergy data isn’t really proprietary.

now the real juicy bits are what the analysis of that data contains including plans on how to deal with the opposing teams. But there’s gonna have to be digging to understand exactly how things unfolded.
