Is Jenkins a great defensive coach well depends on how you grade him. Depends on how much of it came down to Dillon and Jaren. Without Jaren we was one of the worst defensive teams. So they pretty much tells the story. When you look at Mike he had Gannis which is a player that Jaren is a copy of. Naw we need a top seed yea the Lakers was a 6th that’s because of being so bad earlier and trade. The Grizzlies have lost in the playoffs because of healthy nothing else. Missing 3 key players in a series game 6 will doom just about any team. Yea Jaren also take his man one on one he just need the shot attempts. We seen all season the offense was better going to Jaren and Jenkins still didn’t change it. Nothing wrong with the personnel for half court it’s just the system that’s being played. Run it through Jaren more it will take a leap.
Jaren needs to step up his on ball defense Less blocks and fouls and more rebounds and solid on ball defense is the improvement that must happen to replace what Dillon brought to the table J3 has to be able to guard on the wing without allowing passers in the lane and without fouling I do not see Smart being a viable option to stop wings like BI Durant or Marrkanen That has to be Jaren And the elephant in the room – what wing will step up Zaire or Roddy Sorry I just don’t see defense out of any other wing ie LaRavia But the bottomline for the Grizz Championship hopes lies squarely on the shoulders of how Ja plays and leads Will he give flashes of Superstar hey his stats or be The Man on and off the floor the Grizz need to take that next step in the playoffs
i feel like he got DPOY by taking charges i wouldnt consider him a lockdown defender. same for JJJ good rim protection but not great at shutting down drives. but smart is what they needed on offense tho. solid facilitator and shooter and someone who can actually throw a lob. JA is defiantly the weakest link on their defense.
