My Case for Starting Ausar Thomson Opening Night for the Detroit Pistons

To say that Ausar Thompson’s rise in the eyes of NBA fans has had a meteoric rise could be an understatement. Playing for Overtime Elite and not a traditional NCAA setting Ausar and his brother Amen, much like LaMelo Ball, were enigmas to most fans. Players with buzz but little access to or promotion in mainstream outlets. When the 2023 NBA Draft workouts began, however, all of that would change quick and in a hurry. Ausar and his brother Amen would become the draft’s worst secret, THEY ARE LEGIT! Their combination of positional size, athleticism, basketball IQ, and skill floor was leaving General Manager’s salivating and after going #4 and #5 in the NBA Draft they would not disappoint in their summer league showings. Ausar plainly played like Andre Iguodala looking every bit like a cornerstone piece for the rebuilding Pistons. This has lead many to begin to wonder where he will stand opening night on the pecking chart for rotation minutes. With incumbent veteran Bojan Bogdanovich on the roster many have only assumed his continued starting role on this team. In this video I will present to you otherwise.

What the Detroit Pistons SHOULD Look Like Next Season

  1. Bro, 21-18th place finish for Detroit. They can’t even crawl and you expect them to run next season? That’s not how this works.

  2. Ausar should be the starter day 1 he's far to valuable on defense.
Great video keep up the good work

  3. The quicker the core 4 of Cade, Ivey, Ausar and Duren build chemistry and cohesion the better. Start Ausar day 1 and let’s see what the future looks like.

  4. Don't disagree with you on Ausar being a playmaker and connecting type but I also think you underselling how good Bojan is he's not just a shooter he's a scorer. 20 ppg last year. Love Ausar but there is no reason to rush him into the starting lineup. Let him have some success dominating in the second unit first then bring integrate him in the starting lineup if he earns it. Just my thoughts

  5. You make some of the best Piston content. I'd say we have him coming off the Bench until mid season just for him to get eased into the nba schedule. I love our vets bur I wouldn't mind trading Bogdan for Taylor Hendricks in a 3 team deal

  6. Both Ausar and Duren must start and develop if the Pistons are to be contenders, Cade should be the Off Guard. Either Stew or Wizeman need start aside Duren.

  7. I would love to see Ausar starting for all the reason you describe. BUT I also see the logic in Bojan/Stew/Duren in the front court to ensure a certain amount of spacing to start the season.
It seems a lot of these possibilities can be explored in camp and pre-season.

  8. He’s definitely should be our Starting SF no doubt build the future let them go through ups and downs together to build chemistry & confidence

  9. Cade is one of the most double teamed players in the league. I would like to see how he operates with a spaced floor.

  10. We have the talent for sure there is no doubt in mind. There has to be a learning curve of chemistry and defense.
