How This Team Solved the NBA’s Small Market Problem

How This Team Solved the NBA’s Small Market Problem

The NBA has a huge problem. A market problem. Or rather, the NBA has a small market problem. Because although on paper it is a league with a level playing field in which all teams have the same salary cap and draft rights, the reality is that during free agency players always try to choose exactly the same destinations: Los Angeles, New York, Brooklyn, Boston or Miami.

NBA Stars usually ignore small market franchises. It’s as simple as that. Or, in other words, star free agents ignore 80% of the league. This factor creates a handicap in the league that requires meticulous planning and drafting in order for small market teams to be successful. The only way these franchises can get top players is through the draft. And in order to get a high lottery pick, GMs are forced to decide to put terrible teams on the court, capable of being bottom dwellers for up to a decade.

  1. I can’t wait for the season. Ngl Jordan Poole is gonna be most improved next season. They gonna give him the green light I just hopes he appreciates and actually make the next step to be a better player

  2. Sam Presti is a drafting genius…Helped put Spurs dynasty together when he was scouting for them

  3. This production value is crazy I thought I was watching a channel with thousands of subscribers !

  4. This is the best video by this small of an account I’ve ever seen. This might be the start of something huge!

  5. Did he rip JDubs D'? He almost led the NBA in steals Post-AllStar break…Its pronounced "Shay" not "Shy' though a lot of ppl get that wrong. But overall great video.

  6. 48% FG is not efficient and deceptive. Surprisingly, Giddey was actually one of the WORST players efficiency wise for thr Thunder this season.

  7. OKC and Sam Presti 1 nba finals and 0 titles.
Spurs and RC Bufiord 5 titles and 6 finals.
San Antonio is a small market too.
Hellloooooo!?!?! Who's the genius? RC Buford.
Brian Wright is doing fantastic job as Spurs current GM and is also putting together a great young core with a deep war chest in draft picks and future cap space.

  8. All due respect, your video makes no sense.

You're telling us 2 things : OKC has "solved" the "small market problem", and Sam Presti is a legendary GM.
    – Small Markets cannot get stars through trade, but you proceed to mention OKC got Paul George that way, and then got SGA through trading Paul George. So basically their 2 most recent franchise players have been acquired through trades.
    – Sam Presti is the GOAT GM and OKC's got a great young core… because they tanked for two seasons and got high draft picks?? I mean wow Presti drafted Chet Holmgren at #2, nobody saw that guy coming really (also he still hasn't played one minute in the NBA). And then you list several guys with decent stats and that's supposed to make Presti a genius?
Since that '07 season, OKC's had 50+ win seasons 5 times out of 16, decent but hardly an incredible feat. They also got zero NBA titles and just one Conference title. So pretty much nothing to show for Presti's supposed greatness. They also have a losing record last season.

All due respect, your video makes no sense.
