NBA executive believes “no one would be in a better position to get [Giannis] than OKC… and two other dark horses: San Antonio and Toronto.”

If Wemby develops into a superstar, I can see Giannis wants to join us in 2025. Imagine Giannis + Wemby front court 😳

SA always get thrown into these conversations for nothing more than leverage. I guarantee you Giannis nor any other mega superstar will sign a FA contract with SA at this stage.

I won’t say no. Giannis already loves a small market in Wisconsin and with the Rock and Wemby he would love it here too. So long as we can get the cap space and improve with Wemby to a near play in team by 2025 sure. Especially if Pop is still the coach I could see him do it

  3. Frank Madden, who founded BrewHoop and is as plugged in on the Bucks as anyone, said if Giannis leaves it will be because he doesn’t believe the Bucks are championship contenders, so he will want to go somewhere where he can lead a team to rings on his terms. Market size doesn’t matter necessarily.

I think the Spurs would be the best candidate for Giannis to improve his legacy. At this point I’d say it’s < 50% that Wemby or anyone else on the Spurs right now can be the primary offensive creator for a top-5 offense. I’d say it’s more likely that everyone we have right now with teamwork can develop into top-10 territory, without someone who can break down defenses off the dribble consistently.

I am high on Wemby and Sochan as the basis for best defense in the league though. So Giannis could come to the Spurs, be the primary creator on offense, and have Wemby & co. as the best defense in the league. Plus 22-year-old Wemby can be a 1B who can develop into 1A as Giannis starts to decline. Twin towers reborn!

It might ultimately come down to if Spurs ownership shows they are willing to go deep into the luxury tax like the Bucks have been the past few years. Even during the Duncan years ownership rarely went more than a few million into the tax. Honestly if I knew Spurs ownership would be willing to pay a lot of taxes for a few years, I’d have the Spurs as the favorite for Giannis’s team in 2025-26. Less than 50%, but more than any other team.

The Lakers would definitely be waiting with Anthony Davis as the second banana on offense + basis for dominating defense, and Austin Reaves as support. But IMO in two years our core will look a lot better, younger, and Giannis might not want his legacy to be just another guy who hopped to the Lakers.

There’s a lot more to talk about, including the Spurs having the best trade package if the Bucks decide to trade Giannis next offseason, but this is long enough and I gotta go. GSG
