  1. I love the NBA, yet the Euro League Champion teams don't call themselves the "World Champions". Think about that. Now if we're talking about the Olympic Gold Medal winning team, those are literally "World Champions" . Just my opinion. 🤔

  2. (2/2) …The UEFA Champions League champions wouldn't even consider calling themselves world champions, you know why? Because everyone knows who the world champions of football are, namely whoever won the most recent world cup. That's the way it works for basically every sport, so the country that wins this tournament that's ongoing, THAT'S the basketball world champions, even if they're worse at basketball than the Nuggets. Secondarily it would be disrespectful to the Copa Libertadores champs, who would definitely have a non-zero shot of winning in a single game situation. There's not a club team competition in the world that does this, except for the American ones, to my knowledge, and that's for a reason. There's probably many teams in many sports that are obviously the best team in the world, but they don't do it either. If you run a closed shop system like the NBA does, and any team outside of your little circle is excluded to begin with, you just shouldn't make the claim. Because it just makes you come off like a douche, at least to me, and I know many others feel similarly. Don't get the wrong impression, this is not something that I deeply care about, it's not a big deal, it's just kinda cringe behavior to me, and I wanted to lay out the counterargument.

Other than that, solid episode. Agreed with most everything about the Dwight stuff. That was rough on me back when it was going down, but I've since forgiven Dwight for the Dwightmare. Love you guys, keep the Magic content coming!

  3. I've been listening to you guys – from Europe – for years now, but never have you two come off like pretentious douchebags to me than during the early portion of this podcast. Stuff like this – among other things – is why basically the whole of the rest of the world has an unfair dislike for Americans, even though many Americans are lovely people. Yes, the team that wins the NBA is de facto the best team in the world, but just because you could, doesn't mean you should (call yourselves "world champions"). Yes, it's even more cringe with the NFL, but that doesn't mean that the NBA can do it without it being pretentious also. Also gtfoh with that "the world is just lucky the US doesn't take it seriously and we have to bring a different squad every time"; whose problem is that? Maybe the US should take it more seriously, then. Also boo-hoo that much smaller countries have more international roster consistency, because they have a much smaller talent pool; I just feel so bad for the US for this massively unfair advantage (also, they could just focus more on bringing the same players consistently, that's a choice)… (1/2)
