Itā€™s a stupid mental game, I always say to my son ā€œyou are my favorite sonā€ he really likes it, anyway I donā€™t have any other son, similar shit.

  5. Doncicfuturegoat

I hope Noah Lyles is capitalizing on this exposure

USA are competing in the world championships as we speak. When they win they will be world champions and every member of that team will be a world champion.

Look, i’m not some jingoistic American patriot or whatever, but the NBA is by far the best basketball league in the world, all the best players dream of playing here and succeeding.

If you’re an NBA champ, you can call yourself whatever you want in relation to the world, world champion, whatever.

  8. A better way to phrase the argument would be, NBA champs cannot be world champs just becauseĀ theĀ USA as a nation might be able to put together a team that might be better than the team that won the nba championship.

Will the Nuggets team that won the championship be able to beat a US team of KD, Bron, Steph, Ant, Brunson, JJJ and the current US roster etc or the kD-warriors adding Lebron and representing the US ?

The point is champions of a domestic league cannot be world champs, none of the domestic leagues in any other sports outside the US call themselves world champs.

    arguing about semantics, pointless

He has a point saying NBA is the best league in the world. However people saying winning NBA does not mean a World Champion with the argument on the definition of World Champion.

NBA has teams from different cities of USA and Canada and they represent their cities, and the venues are not distributed globally so at best itā€™s a regional or continental league. International league on the other hand should involve clubs or teams from all over the world, maybe sometimes with regional qualifiers.

What is debatable is whether participants as countries or the individual players themselves should be international or ā€œfrom the worldā€, to call the winner of a league World Champion.

This debate will go on forever, before people have a consent on what a World Champion means. I like the NBA, and as it is much more fun to watch than any other league, I will keep watching it.

A World Cup on basketball would not be entertaining at all, when internationally you are seeing Team China being slaughtered by team Serbia, or in a what if situation, Shanghai Shark against the Denver Nuggets.

Given the best nba players are not yanks ill concede the nba being a world wide league lmao

  12. exhalingcookie

wow so this means that rudy gobert is the world defensive player of the year?why he so ass in fiba LOL

  13. MasterCrunch0

This whole argument just screams “Sportsball” to me, its like the morons who never shut up about the MLB calling their finals “World Series”.

  14. j1mmyava1on

As someone that heavily follows esports, I can understand where Noah Lyles is coming from. For example, in League of Legends, the LPL league (China) is by far the best league in the World right now but no league fan is going to say that whoever wins 2023 LPL is the world champion unless they win 2023 Worlds. You can make the argument for LCK (Korea) from 2013-2018 when it was the best league and had the most talent yet no one declared LCK winners as world champions.

  15. 3____Username____20

So if the nba champions are world champions, what will this US team be called if they win the fiba world cup?

  16. LeonBlacksruckus

So are the nuggets world champions or will they be lol

  17. thewizzkidd

Just change the name to IBA, and problem solved

  18. Waly_Disnep

Look at what coach Gregg Pedantich started

  19. Detonation

Why does anyone give a shit about this “debate” in the first place? lol

  20. Obi1Kentucky

Who cares honestly. Can we just appreciate basketball is growing in popularity worldwide at a ridiculous pace.

As an American who grew up in a ā€œbasketball is a religionā€ state I have enjoyed watching this FIBA World Cup. Itā€™s been a blast watching teams like Japan fans cry from pure joy. Or the little underdogs like Dominican Republic team lead by KAT surprise the world. Seeing superstar NBA players showing pride for their country. And fans losing their minds. Basketball is awesome and Iā€™m so happy to see the world cherish the game

I really want someone to read the quote from Pop to them and see what they say, followed up by their reaction when you told them who said it. Watch them switch up real quickā€¦

  22. thebarber87

He says not the most intelligent response while responding unintelligently

  23. AgentLF

It’s funny seeing the responses from US folks and responses from the Rest of the world.

  24. slamajamabro

Lol nba players are so triggered by this, Lylesā€™ comments living rent free in their heads even after so a long time
