Luka was visibly unhappy with the officiating during todays World Cup quarterfinal game vs. Canada. He made the money gesture several times toward the VIP booth where the FIBA officials were seated. The crowd was full on Slovenias side the whole game, I think they just hate Brooks they booed him hard when he came out the tunnel lmao

The refs didn’t like what he thought was a foul, but Brooks and Lu gave him absolutely nothing to work with.

It was a legit foul, Luka is just the biggest whiner in professional basketball, and a lot of fans blindly buy what he’s selling.
When a superstar is going into full-out whine mode, many ppl believe the game is poorly reffed, without actually taking a good look at the calls/non-calls. It’s even worse when you have a guy like Luka, who is CONSTANTLY initiating contact with defenders, throwing his arms up like he got shot, then flipping out on refs when they don’t fall for it. He’s still living off the good vibes from fans he got when entering the league, but his actual game is like prime Harden but worse now.
The refs weren’t perfect in this game, but they were decent. Luka was acting up a storm and they weren’t buying it, plus Slovenia just couldn’t guard SGA (or to a lesser extent Barrett), and were fouling a lot. The issue in this game was Luka being a baby, not the refs.
Jordi Fernandez said it last game in the huddle when the whistles weren’t going in Canada’s way. We’re getting fucked by the whistle but let me do the bitching and you guys just play. Luka has to control his emotions.

Tbf, I only caught the second half and the fouls called were NBA level calls. There used to be much more contact allowed, but I think it changed a bit since last year and Idk why. F this going to the line every possession, it was what I enjoyed about Fiba/Euroleague.

Including a FT disparity is so reductionist that even a possibly-valid complaint about bias or point shaving loses credibility. When and on whom a foul is called will influence an outcome as much or more than the final box score stats.
