Steve Kerr on the rest of the world catching up with the USA: “These games are difficult. This is not 1992 anymore. Players are better all over the world, teams are better and it’s not easy to win a World Cup or an Olympic game.”

Not saying he is wrong but this is a big cope from him. You have the biggest talent pool available. You should always win no matter how everyone else does. Kerr will pick Curry in the next Olympics and he will win because he can’t win without Steph Curry. Simple as that

  2. iamdjonez

It’s not insane to say that he did an average to bad job of coaching this cup. USA basketball consistently set the coaches up for failure, but man how long are you just gonna not play the best 5 and expect to win.

  3. rumblegod

    Good stuff by Kerr,
I mean the Olympics might be decent challenge for team USA

  4. Valuable_End_515

Kerr and Colangelo put this team together. This loss is on them.

  5. Funny-Transition7869

    spo shouldve been head coach

  6. J_Otherwise

Oh ffs stop with that catching up bullshit.

USA has won like four Olympic gold medals when ya’ll said it in fucking 2004

As a Kings fan, this makes me a bit more excited that we added the Euroleague MVP in Sasha Vezenkov. If I was a Thunder fan, I’d be a bit more excited about the former Euroleague MVP, Micic, joining their team too.

This can’t keep being the excuse. Pop and co used this after the 2019 disaster. Team usa has the most talent to choose from and top to bottom has the most depth in these tournaments. The organization is not bringing in the players nor strategy to win the World Cup. Maybe they don’t care because for the US the Olympic Gold trumps everything as the prize but the excuse cannot be well the world got better, even if it is true, you are bringing in rosters that are not adept to win on the FIBA stage.

  9. RyanTannegod

There was literally no defensive game plan, and on offense you just let Ant run iso.

  10. themixedwonder

i just felt like it was a poor team to begin with.

  11. phillyhoffmangoat

Kerr just did not coach well. Rarely did he have the best lineup out there. I get he rarely if ever takes accountability but this is taking it a bit far.

Oh yes the world wide powerhouse that is German basketball lol gtfo

  12. Belieber_420

I think another factor is that players on some European teams have been playing together for years at the international level, so they have good team chemistry, teamwork, more experience etc.. Whereas team USA just put together a team at the last minute

  13. stephencurry2046

Kerr just doesn’t like the big folks and always trusts his multiple guards/small ball strategies. Size! Size! Size!

  14. Top-Consequence-911

Can’t the US try a college coach again? Kerr plays his lineups like it’s a feel-out game 1

  15. im_back_glenda

Why the hell did USA makes a tenured coach as assistant coach again?
Kerr thinks this is the GSW playing on NBA rules. It’s not. Outcoached and outplay by the Germans

  16. Mental-Bit

Gotta bring back tryouts. Make these guys compete for a spot

  17. deck4242

why KD, Booker, Curry, Butler, Tatum, Lillard, Lebron or Kawhi dont want to play for their national team unless its the Olympics is the real question here.

  18. NearbyComfort

USA just play so much 4 or 5 out ISO ball whereas Germany played so much more cutting and clever actions to get their shooters good looks both inside and outside the 3 point arc as well as abusing mismatches on the interior. I feel like lots of players have bad habits from the NBA in stat hunting and trying to play 1v1 and score on their match ups. Now that the talent disparity is not as glaring as in previous years and without USA sending their A team it’s not really surprising that games are much closer.

  19. Kerr got exposed, he really should thank Curry for his coaching tenure

  20. PlagueDoc22

Team US showed a lack of fundamentals. Basic things like boxing out and so on.

  21. T4hunderb0lt

The bigger reason is he failed as a coach.

  22. Background_Action_92

This just proves that Spo should’ve been the top boy instead of Ker

  23. BlackmoorGoldfsh

This is what happens when a TEAM on one side, plays a bunch of individuals on the other. Players in the US come up through the AAU playing ISO ball & chucking 3’s while foreign teams learn how to operate as a single unit. They also play defense & practice sound fundamentals. We don’t teach that in the US anymore. When is the last time you saw an NBA player box out? That’s something you’re taught when you’re like 5 years old.

We try to skate by on raw talent alone. Blame the AAU & modern day NBA for this.

  24. balvan13

Here’s a wild idea. Hire a european coach. NBA stars are way too pretencious in FIBA competitions, like the gold is their birthright. Euro coach will kill that attitude and would probably ban those clowns to talk to the media. Then he will, and bear with me on this, actually create a gameplan. He would utilize their massive talent to crate a team and not a bunch of individual players

  25. YareSekiro

Without KD carrying the squad they would very likely lose in 2021 Olympics too. They need to seriously rethink the model of “slapping a bunch of NBA stars” and call it a day for FIBA matches.

  26. lord_james

Only reason the early 90s were easy is because Yugoslavia was busy becoming 5-7 different nations.

  27. orangetreeman

i mean he isn’t that far off, the distance between the US and the rest of the world has closed by a lot, that’s why you can’t just put out your 5 best players without a gameplan hoping thats enough.

Just look at the list of best players in the NBA, there’s a bunch of international players on there, which was not the case like 15 or 20 years ago (at least not that many)

  28. vunacar

You only got that now? Did the 3-4 best players in the league and MVP candidates not being from USA not give you the hint?

  29. tetris_ita

His coaching was horrible. Started the game with a small lineup with average shooting (Brunson/Hart in the backcourt) and left on the bench Reaves and Johnson, a ball handler and a 3 point specialist. Decided to play the whole game without mixing his defensive scheme (switch everything and some full court press). Didn’t even try to play JJJ with Kessler to try to keep the German big off the boards.

  30. Mustermuss

And you are clearly an overrated coach.

  31. HelloS0n

Not sure what you expect when you’re fielding the USB team 🤷🏻‍♂️

  32. royroyroypolly

Hot take: Steve Kerr is a very mediocre coach. He’s only successful because of Curry.
